About The Position

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will lead teams building Marketplace Orders and Returns systems for third-party sellers. You will be responsible for technical execution, team leadership, and delivery of scalable, reliable platforms that power critical post-purchase workflows. The Marketplace Engineering team is at the forefront of building core platforms and services to enable Walmart to deliver vast selection at competitive prices and with best-in-class customer experience by enabling third-party sellers to the marketplace platform, sell and manage their products to our customers on walmart.com. We do this by managing the entire seller lifecycle, monitoring customer experience, and deliver high-value insights to our sellers to help them plan their assortment, price, and inventory. The team also actively collaborates with partner platform teams to ensure we continue to deliver the best experience to our sellers and our customers.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of engineering experience, with 5+ years in leadership roles
  • Experience leading engineering teams and delivering at scale
  • Strong background in distributed systems, microservices, and cloud platforms
  • Experience building high-scale, reliable systems
  • Familiarity with Java backend and modern web technologies (React)
  • Strong people leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 2 years’ supervisory experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

  • Drive technical strategy and architecture for Marketplace Orders and Returns systems
  • Lead development of event-driven, microservices platforms, including APIs, integrations, and web applications
  • Ensure scalability, reliability, and operational excellence of systems
  • Lead and develop a team of engineers, including hiring and mentoring
  • Partner with Product and cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions
  • Drive alignment and manage cross-team dependencies across Marketplace, Returns, Fulfillment, and Data Science & Analytics teams
  • Leverage AI and Generative AI to drive automation, insights, and developer productivity
  • Drive execution, delivery, and continuous improvement using data and metrics
