We are seeking a strategic and forward-thinking Senior Manager, Software Engineering to lead a complex technology transformation. In this role, you will move beyond day-to-day coding to oversee the engineering members of multiple squads, focusing on high-impact modernization, cross-squad dependencies, and the integration of AI/ML capabilities The ideal candidate is an active thought leader who works closely with Product Management, Operations Leaders, and other key stakeholders to deliver robust, scalable systems. You will articulate the business value of technical debt reduction, drive architectural decisions (specifically Monolith to Microservices), and champion talent development, serving as a bridge between technical strategy and business mission.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7+ years of progressive experience in web-based technologies and Software Engineering.
  • Minimum 3+ years in people management, specifically managing high-performing teams.
  • Degree, diploma, or equivalent directly related work experience in Computer Science or Engineering.
  • Proven track record leading major architectural migrations (e.g., Monolith to Microservices) in a high-volume, production environment is required.
  • Extensive experience in Cloud native development of Microservices , specifically using Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and other Google Cloud Platform components.
  • Strong knowledge of front-end frameworks such as Angular and React Native, with specific expertise in overseeing Micro-front-end architecture.
  • Familiarity with diverse data storage solutions including Google Cloud SQL, MongoDB, Redis Cache, and SQL Server.
  • Understanding of event streaming and messaging architectures using Google Pub/Sub and Kafka.
  • Proficiency with modern CI/CD pipelines and collaboration tools such as Gitlab, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Understanding of MLOps principles and experience establishing engineering pipelines for AI/ML integration.
  • Strong skills in application performance tuning and optimization.
  • Advanced ability to identify potential stakeholders, analyze expectations, and work independently to manage relationships across the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure and coach teams through change and ambiguity.
  • Expertise in the full software development life cycle (SDLC), including design, configuration, integration, testing, quality assurance, and post-production support.
  • Strong skills in risk mitigation and ensuring the scalability and maintainability of complex systems.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of translating technical concepts for business audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Strategically lead and manage the engineering team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and psychological safety.
  • Talent Development: Establish career development frameworks for the department, identifying high-potential individuals and creating specific growth opportunities, with a focus on upskilling the team in distributed systems and cloud practices.
  • Coaching: Act as a hands-on technical coach to Team Leads and Engineers, championing initiatives to enhance engineering culture and promoting modern engineering practices.
  • Vision & Motivation: Paint an engaging picture of future possibilities for the team, inspiring and motivating engineers through the transition from legacy systems to a modern, AI-enabled architecture.
  • Change Management: Provide steady leadership during complex transitions, proactively managing stakeholder expectations and addressing resistance to ensure alignment across operational departments.
  • Monolith Migration: Lead the multi-year strategy and execution plan for migrating the monolithic application to a resilient microservices and micro-frontend architecture.
  • Data Strategy: Drive the strategic decoupling and breakdown of centralized databases into domain-bound databases to improve scalability, reliability, and service autonomy.
  • AI/ML Integration: Establish the engineering pipeline (MLOps) and practices necessary to integrate ML/AI agents for process automation, directly contributing to reductions in customer service calls (CSS).
  • Strategic Alignment: Ensure technology initiatives align with the broader Tech Strategy and serve as a competitive business edge by improving operational efficiency.
  • Architectural Governance: Partner with Directors to make significant cross-team technical choices, defining high-level architecture and approving design patterns for broader systems.
  • Product & Operations Partnership: Act as a key technical voice in the "product trio" (Product, Design, Engineering), ensuring technical feasibility and innovation align with user experience goals and operational SLAs.
  • Value Articulation: Articulate the value of technology initiatives (specifically modernization and AI adoption) to stakeholders at all levels, persuasively rallying support and tailoring communication to win buy-in.
  • Lifecycle Management: Lead development initiatives from initial bootstrap and prototyping phases through to production launch, specifically managing the roadmap to balance feature delivery with essential technical debt reduction.
  • Reliability & Performance: Oversee the management and optimization of critical operational applications, ensuring high availability, system Uptime/SLA compliance, and scalability under heavy load.
  • Process Optimization: Oversee the development and optimization of department-wide processes, ensuring they incorporate evolving governance best practices, IT policies, and MLOps principles.
