About The Position

We are looking for a Senior Manager, Sales & Marketing Metallics and Critical Minerals who is accountable for the commercial strategy, performance, and long-term value creation of Rio Tinto’s Metallics and Critical Minerals portfolio. This role provides senior leadership across sales execution, market development, portfolio management, ESG integration, and stakeholder engagement—maximizing value from existing businesses while building resilience and optionality in strategically important and emerging markets.

Responsibilities

  • Own P&L accountability for the Metallics and Critical Minerals sales portfolio, including revenue, margin, pricing strategy, and value optimization.
  • Define and execute global commercial strategies aligned with Minerals Sales & Marketing objectives.
  • Lead sales and supporting commercial teams to deliver sustainable financial performance.
  • Oversee commercial management of Metallics and Critical Minerals products supplied from Rio Tinto’s operating portfolio, including the Sorel Complex (RTFT) and Richards Bay Minerals (RBM).
  • Align commercial strategies with production capabilities, product specifications, and evolving market demand for steel billets, HPI (high-purity iron), Sorel Flux, and critical minerals produced from our operations.
  • Partner with asset leadership to support portfolio optimization and long-term value creation (without direct operational accountability).
  • Lead senior-level customer engagement, including strategic partnerships and key account relationships.
  • Oversee market segmentation, customer prioritization, and portfolio management to balance near-term delivery with long-term strategic positioning.
  • Drive diversification across products, applications, and geographies, including specialty and emerging markets.
  • Support sales and customer relationships in the Americas for TiO2 feedstock, rutile and zircon.
  • Oversee development of new critical minerals opportunities, including early-stage markets and strategic partnerships.
  • Partner with R&D to advance products under development.
  • Strengthen Rio Tinto’s position as a credible, responsible supplier to priority industrial and technology value chains.
  • Champion ESG integration across Metallics and Critical Minerals commercial activities, including sustainability, traceability, and responsible sourcing.
  • Represent the business externally with customers, industry bodies, and selected government and institutional stakeholders.
  • Ensure commercial strategies support Rio Tinto’s reputation, social license, and sustainability objectives.
  • Lead and develop a team of four direct reports, fostering high performance, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Establish clear governance, decision rights, and performance expectations across the portfolio.
  • Promote a strong safety, inclusion, and performance culture aligned with Rio Tinto values.
  • Collaborate effectively with other members of the commercial leadership team, including senior managers of TiO2 and Zircon sales as well as customer service and sales operations.
