About The Position

The Global Safety and Security team at DoorDash is responsible for protecting its people, property, operations, brand, and reputation across all markets. The Protective Services function specifically focuses on the safety of individuals and their environments. This role is a "build-and-execute" mandate for a Senior Manager, Protective Services, who will lead protective operations and report to the Director, Protective Services. The position involves making key decisions regarding staffing, assignments, protection strategies, resource allocation, vendor management, training, and incident handling. It is a player-coach role where the individual will actively participate in protective operations, including travel and on-call duties, while also setting standards for the team. The goal is to provide a seamless protective service that allows protected individuals to move through their lives with minimal friction and builds trust. Key areas of ownership include protective operations, training and standards, vendor management, incident response, and converged physical-cyber protection. Success in the first year will be measured by establishing a strong operating rhythm, implementing high-quality training and qualification standards, ensuring the team is ready for immediate deployment, and driving protective decisions based on intelligence.

Requirements

  • Ten or more years in protective, security, or military operations.
  • Five or more years managing people with hands-on responsibility for protective operations.
  • Held real decision authority, not just advised.
  • Ability to make sound judgments under pressure with incomplete information in fast-moving situations.
  • Track record of building or scaling protective capability and setting standards, qualifications, and procedures.
  • Experience running more than one protective discipline or program simultaneously, accountable for cost, method, and staffing.
  • Technical fluency across physical and cyber security, understanding networked systems, network security concepts, access control, surveillance, and residential security technology at an operational level.
  • Ability to assess the effectiveness of proposed security fixes.
  • Earned and maintained the confidence of protected individuals and their close contacts.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Willingness to travel around 35 percent, with peaks near 50 percent, often on short notice.
  • Willingness to be available for protective events and serious escalations outside working hours.
  • Ability to stay on feet and moving for long stretches across various environments.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to assist or move a person to safety.
  • Ability to work in tight spaces and sit for extended periods in vehicles and aircraft.
  • Ability to see and assess people, vehicles, and conditions at distance and in poor light.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in loud environments.
  • Ability to drive in heavy traffic and adverse conditions.
  • Ability to work outdoors and in transit in extreme weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Ability to work irregular and long hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with short or broken sleep and across time zones.
  • Ability to maintain good decision-making while working under demanding conditions.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead protective operations, including staffing, assignment, protective decisions, resourcing, and response.
  • Lead from within the work, being accountable for the performance of protective operations.
  • Own training and standards, defining and verifying qualifications and currency for the team.
  • Build a team that can deploy on short notice and maintain readiness.
  • Manage vendors and suppliers, including procurement and setting approval thresholds.
  • Serve as the escalation point for protective events, making real-time decisions on protection and resourcing.
  • Escalate immediately on legal exposure, law enforcement involvement, or risks impacting other teams, documenting decisions and rationale.
  • Lead converged physical-cyber protection efforts by collaborating with Protective Intelligence and Cyber Protective Services.
  • Read threat indicators and assess findings from testing and assessment.
  • Determine how protection responds to threats that originate online.
  • Build relationships with protected individuals, their families, and teams to foster trust and reliance.
  • Design out friction in protective services to minimize impact on protected individuals.
  • Partner with intelligence, cybersecurity, legal, and business teams on matters beyond direct authority.
