The Senior Manager- Product Management is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of the TDS residential and commercial products and services. This position is responsible for meeting and/or exceeding annual revenue targets and ensuring overall profitability. This includes but is not limited to monitoring the telecommunications environment, evaluating product and service opportunities, conducting the due diligence necessary to make a recommendation for business case development, identifying partners: negotiating contractual relationships and managing product relationships, and overseeing product pilots. This position manages a broad class of products and services through their lifecycle, including but not limited to, product growth, maintenance, and end-of-life, new product rollouts, identifying and collaborating pricing strategies, monitoring product profitability, understanding target markets: identifying, researching needs, and developing competitive intelligence, and providing the product positioning, value propositions, and reasons-to-believe in the marketplace. The Senior Manager- Product Management is also responsible for the development, budget, management, and processes related to the maintenance, promotion, measurement and improvement of new and existing product lines. The position is responsible for managing and collaborating with external vendors: vendor selection, contract negotiations and management, relationship management / engagement, and any needed troubleshooting. It also works very closely with TDS business units (GRA, Legal, Finance, Accounting, Supply Chain, PMO, Network Services / Operations, Marketing, Sales, Field Services, IT, Data Engineering / Management, Customer Operations, etc.). In addition, this position leads the product management staff by developing strategies, providing directions to ensure the team meets strategic objectives and metrics for their assigned products and services, and working with key stakeholders and vendors to execute initiatives. This position can work remotely in any of the 40+ states in which TDS Telecom operates

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree (or higher) -OR- 4+ years professional work experience.
  • 7+ years of telecommunications, cable or software industry experience, which includes experience and exposure to areas such as product development, product management, marketing, sales, business development or strategic planning disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the product management team by developing strategies & providing directions to ensure the team meets the strategic objectives & metrics for assigned products and lines.
  • Develop, communicate, and manage the team’s direction.
  • Manage the product life cycle from new entry to product exit.
  • Establish and collaborate on pricing strategies.
  • Manage products profitability including analysis, reporting, and read-outs.
  • Ensure the timely delivery of reliable platforms, products & services.
  • Resolve high-level & large scale (multiple customer) billing & technical issues.
  • Innovate and improve through simplification/process improvement/Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) management.
  • Address operational issues (e.g., procedures, collaboration).
  • Collaborate, develop, and maintain product road maps with Product Development.
  • Monitor competitive activities.
  • Prepare initiative business plans / cases, as necessary.
  • Provide technical & sales support to operational teams to sell and deliver products & services to our customers.
  • Work closely with other business units in support of product goals and initiatives, including some or all of the following (depending on product): Information Services on strategic products, billing and system related issues. Network Services on strategic network design, technology assessment & vendor issues. Network Operations & Field Services for issues relating to network-dependent products. GRA (Pricing, Tariffs, & External Relations) on regulated issues as it relates to assigned products & services. Marketing, Sale Enablement & Sales Operations to create strategic marketing plans, introduce & promote services, develop promotional campaigns designed to increase product penetration, & reporting requirements for each product lines.
  • Manage & collaborate with external vendors as follows: vendor selection, contract negotiation & management, ongoing troubleshooting, & regular vendor relationship management & interaction. Monitor & manage quality & service levels for selected vendors. Responsible for business case analysis for making purchase recommendations for new offerings from vendor(s).
  • Maintain regular contact with sales channels & TDS customers to identify & address product gaps, pricing issues, & teaching moments. Participate in various external forums to stay abreast of industry and peer developments.
  • Prepare annual revenue budgets, 5-year forecasts and quarterly Monthly Expected Revenue Outlook (MERO) forecasts for assigned product lines. Work with Finance to develop models for revenue/COGS budgeting process.
  • Develop requirements for forecasting & reporting tools to capture data. Use it in analyzing trending, impact of initiatives, and providing updates to the organizational leadership.
