About The Position

The Senior Manager Procurement, Americas Packaging is responsible for developing and executing procurement and category strategies across packaging materials and related supply markets throughout the Americas region. This role provides strategic leadership for supplier relationships, category management, supply continuity, cost competitiveness, sustainability, innovation, and risk mitigation while supporting 3M's growth, operational excellence, and new product development initiatives. The position partners closely with business groups, manufacturing, engineering, quality, R&D, supply chain, finance, and regional/global procurement teams to leverage 3M's purchasing scale, accelerate supplier innovation, and create sustainable competitive advantage. The Senior Manager leads a team of procurement professionals and serves as a key advisor to business leadership on packaging market trends, supplier capabilities, and sourcing strategies. This role supports Divisions across 3M, giving the successful candidate broad exposure to 3M’s diverse businesses & products. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
  • Ten (10) years of Sourcing, Procurement, Logistics, Supply Chain, Engineering and/or Manufacturing experience in a private, public, government or military environment
  • Five (5) years of leadership or people management experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide end-to-end category leadership, serving as the senior manager for Americas Packaging team within 3M Global Procurement
  • Develop and execute short- and long-term category strategies for packaging materials, including paper, corrugated, flexible packaging, films, labels, cartons, rigid containers, wood, and specialty packaging solutions.
  • Align procurement strategies with business growth plans, manufacturing requirements, sustainability commitments, and customer expectations.
  • Drive sourcing initiatives that improve cost, quality, service, resiliency, and innovation.
  • Monitor packaging market dynamics, raw material trends, supplier technologies, capacity constraints, and competitive intelligence to inform sourcing decisions.
  • Lead supplier rationalization efforts and supply-base optimization activities.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with key packaging suppliers across the Americas.
  • Lead supplier selection, qualification, and overall management processes.
  • Conduct executive business reviews with strategic suppliers and establish performance improvement plans where necessary.
  • Drive supplier innovation programs that support new product introductions and packaging technology advancement.
  • Develop strategic supplier roadmaps that align with 3M's future business and technology needs.
  • Lead complex commercial negotiations and manage long-term supply agreements.
  • Utilize should-cost analysis, market intelligence, and total-cost-of-ownership methodologies to drive value-based decisions.
  • Deliver annual productivity, cost reduction, and working capital improvement objectives.
  • Ensure competitive pricing and favorable commercial terms while balancing risk, service, and innovation requirements.
  • Partner with Legal, Finance, and business stakeholders on contract development and risk management.
  • Develop sourcing strategies that enhance supply resiliency.
  • Support supplier sustainability initiatives, responsible sourcing requirements, and environmental objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, quality, and supplier governance standards.
  • Proactively identify emerging risks related to commodities, capacity, geopolitical events, and logistics.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing procurement team.
  • Influence and align stakeholders across manufacturing, engineering, quality, operations, marketing, R&D, finance, and executive leadership.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, strategic thinking, and customer focus.
  • Drive enterprise procurement transformation initiatives and adoption of digital procurement tools.
  • Champion best practices in category management, supplier management, and sourcing excellence
  • Corporate policies, procedures and security standards are complied with while performing assigned duties.
  • Contribute to a strong Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) culture by following safety policies, identifying hazards, and engaging in continuous improvement.
