About The Position

The Senior Manager Process & Project Engineering – Sanitary PTS acts as a key member of the Engineering team supporting the Sanitary PTS group within the Nutrition Plant Engineering Division of North America. The individual leads the Engineering team in the execution (design, process, testing, and commissioning) of Liquid projects to be delivered as standalone or integrated systems. Projects may be comprised of different technologies consisting of Food, Dairy, Beverage, Brewery, and New Food business units. Leads the Process & Project Engineering – Sanitary PTS to support execution of the NPE North America project portfolio. These projects vary in complexity, time and economic size. The Senior Manager oversees their team to ensure the Engineering project team delivers the projects according to the budget, schedule, scope and specifications, together with meeting customer expectations. Supervises, trains and mentors a team of Process & Project Engineers to ensure that they understand and adhere to Company/Department procedures and standards. Maintains a positive team atmosphere contributing to the success of NPE NAM. Completes resources planning for the team and works with the Director of Engineering - Process & Project Engineering and PMO Office to maintain the appropriate staffing levels to support the project portfolio workload and maintain the project schedules with a focus on staff retention and succession planning. Provides coaching and development support for the team, suggests training needs for performance improvement and completes performance evaluations. Assists directly on projects where needed to support project requirements. Ensures that the team is following company established procedures including GEA Project Management guidelines as defined by the PPP and Product Engineering Standards maintained by the NPE Technology Product & Application Management. Drives team activities and initiatives concerned with technical developments, standardization, and resolving engineering design and test problems. Improves engineering efficiency by developing and implementing tools, procedures and methods and by standardizing to reduce repetitive work. Ensures that all members of the Process & Project Engineering - Sanitary PTS Team follow GEA policies including Travel and the Health and Safety handbook. Reviews and approves Timesheets, PTO requests and Expense reports for the team. Supports project risk analysis and assists with development of response plans and risk mitigation on projects. Oversees a subset of the project portfolio by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, providing technical assistance, engineering reviews and resolving problems. Supports Technical Offer Management (TOM) during pre-sale including input and review of engineering hours, provide historical data for costing; as well as engineering support for installation pricing including contractor meetings and install specification development. Develops relationships with clients and project stakeholders, handles customer complaints regarding project performance and supports the negotiation settlement of claims within the scope of project engineering responsibility.

Requirements

  • 4-year Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering – Mechanical, Chemical, Food Science or related field
  • Minimum 5 years engineering and/or project management experience is required
  • Must be willing to travel (approximately 25% of the time)
  • Computer Literate and proficient in MS Office products
  • Detail oriented and highly organized
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently
  • Must possess good English language communication skills both written & verbal

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in process engineering, fluid dynamics, heat transfer and/or structural engineering preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings
  • Food, Dairy, Brewing or Beverage industry project management and/or project engineering experience is a plus
  • Proven interpersonal skills and work well in a team setting
  • Experience in matrix organizations, especially influencing and leading without direct authority is an advantage.
  • Experience in Change Management
