About The Position

The Senior Manager, People & Organization (“P&O”) – Pacific Northwest (PNW) leads the execution of core Human Resources processes within the Fashion boutiques in the market, as well as identifies opportunities for specific people strategies. The Senior Manager, People & Organization – PNW is a key business partner to the Boutique Leadership Teams (“BLT”) in the market, helping build their leadership skills and driving performance in a human driven way. Primarily based in the San Francisco boutique, the Senior Manager, P&O – PNW, will also support the Neiman Marcus San Francisco, Nordstrom Valley Fair, Palo Alto and Hawaii boutiques. Our ideal candidate will be both hands on and strategic, drawing upon their passion for building relationships and experience in creating effective solutions.

Requirements

  • 7 + years of core HR (HR Generalist) experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written), strong relationship building skills as well as the ability to influence and assess situations objectively.
  • Ability to use discretion and independent judgment.
  • Prior HR experience within a Retail/Wholesale environment preferred, with a passion for working regularly on-site in a retail environment.
  • Employee relations experience.
  • Strong detail orientation and ability to prioritize.
  • Comfort with HRIS systems (such as Workday) and performing basic analysis in Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to be in-boutique three (3) days per week. The structure will typically consist of 2 days in San Francisco and 1 day in Palo Alto or Valley Fair, though the exact time in each location will fluctuate based on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Build and foster connections across all levels within the PNW Boutiques by maintaining a presence and displaying a genuine curiosity about the Retail space, which will include 1:1 check-ins, round table discussions, and pulse checks.
  • Partner with the BLT and Education Team to onboard and integrate new team members.
  • Support each BLT in conducting career discussions with team members, highlighting developmental needs.
  • Provide input on organizational structure, workforce planning, talent reviews and succession planning in partnership with Group Director, P&O – West.
  • Guide the annual compensation and performance review process for the PNW Boutiques, providing direction, counsel, and support to each BLT.
  • Analyze trends and utilize the insights gleaned in decision making related to various P&O priorities (i.e. diversity and well-being etc.).
  • Partner with the BLT in each location to proactively identify opportunity areas and performance gaps.
  • Support performance management by providing frequent guidance to BLT (i.e. coaching, counseling, disciplinary actions, and exits).
  • Ensure consistency in handling performance matters and administration of processes, collaborating with BLT and P&O partners as needed.
  • Champion and accelerate a culture of diversity and inclusion.
  • Forecast hiring needs with BLT, particularly as it relates to peak seasons.
  • Play an active role driving internal mobility
  • Support the Talent Acquisition team in implementing sourcing strategies to build active pipeline, which may include organizing and leading in person recruitment events for large-scale hiring interview days/events, etc.
  • In partnership with Talent Acquisition, support upskilling hiring managers and interview panels via Hiring @ Our Best Trainings, D&I Anti-Bias Recruitment Trainings, Workday Recruit and LinkedIn Recruiter trainings
  • Manage and resolve employee relations issues in the market by conducting timely, effective, thorough, and objective investigations.
  • Consult with the internal Employee Relations / P&O Team / Legal Team to ensure consistency in handling employee relations issues.
  • In collaboration with the Benefits team, manage workers’ compensation issues, leaves of absence and accommodations.
  • Continuously build a knowledge of employment best practices, with specific knowledge of Federal/State employment application to include: business process, talent management and development, hiring, employee relations, policies, and procedures, change management, problem solving, meeting design, etc.
  • Partner closely with Legal, Retail Operations, Asset Protection, Employee Relations and Total Rewards to establish alignment and respond to inquiries.
