About The Position

The Senior Manager of Operations will lead day-to-day operational performance across a fast-growing compounding pharmacy environment, ensuring safe, compliant, efficient, and scalable production, fulfillment, and distribution of compounded medications. This role is responsible for driving operational excellence, improving workflow, increasing throughput, developing frontline leaders, and ensuring that pharmacy operations consistently meet quality, compliance, service, and business objectives. The ideal candidate is a hands-on operations leader with experience in pharmacy, pharmaceutical manufacturing, healthcare operations, or another highly regulated production environment. This person must be comfortable leading in a fast-paced, growth-oriented setting where process discipline, team accountability, and continuous improvement are critical.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in operations, engineering, pharmacy, chemistry, biology, physics, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, compounding pharmacy, medical devices, nutraceuticals, or another regulated environment.
  • 5+ years of people-management experience with responsibility for production performance, staffing, coaching, and compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of cGMP, quality systems, investigations, CAPA, SOPs, controlled documentation, scheduling, and process improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Leadership experience in a compounding pharmacy, 503A, 503B, mail-order pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, pharmaceutical manufacturing, or sterile/non-sterile production environment.
  • Familiarity with USP 795, 797, 800, FDA expectations, and cGMP principles.
  • Formal Lean Six Sigma training, or other relevant continuous improvement experience.
  • Experience with pharmacy management systems, ERP/WMS systems, inventory systems, production scheduling tools, or fulfillment technology.
  • Experience scaling operations during periods of rapid growth.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily pharmacy operations, including production workflow, order fulfillment, packaging, labeling, staging, and shipping readiness.
  • Partner closely with Pharmacists, Quality, Lab Testing, Customer Service, Inventory, and Fulfillment teams to ensure orders move efficiently from receipt through release and shipment.
  • Monitor daily performance against key metrics including order volume, turnaround time, productivity, backlog, error rates, rework, and on-time shipment.
  • Identify bottlenecks and lead corrective actions to improve flow, capacity, and reliability.
  • Support scalable processes as the pharmacy grows in volume, complexity, and product mix.
  • Lead, coach, and develop managers, leads, technicians, fulfillment staff, and operational support teams.
  • Establish clear daily and weekly expectations, daily management routines, and accountability systems.
  • Build a high-performance culture focused on safety, quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, and workforce planning.
  • Develop future leaders and strengthen bench talent across the operation.
  • Ensure operational practices align with applicable pharmacy regulations, company policies, SOPs, cGMP principles where applicable, and quality standards.
  • Promote a strong culture of documentation accuracy, procedural adherence, and right-first-time execution.
  • Partner with Quality and Pharmacist leadership on deviations, CAPAs, process improvements, audits, inspections, and compliance readiness.
  • Ensure staff follow appropriate handling, labeling, storage, cleanliness, and documentation requirements.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, improve throughput, shorten cycle times, and improve customer/patient service levels.
  • Implement and/or improve on standard work, visual management, daily huddles, KPI tracking, and root cause problem-solving practices.
  • Support technology, automation, facility layout, workflow redesign, and system improvement projects.
  • Help develop operational capacity plans to support growth in volume, product offerings, and service.
  • Work directly with Pharmacists, Quality, Supply Chain, Customer Care, IT, Finance, and Executive Leadership.
  • Communicate operational priorities, risks, staffing needs, and performance trends clearly and proactively.
  • Support new product launches, system implementations, and business expansion efforts.
  • Serve as a key operational escalation point for urgent orders, workflow disruptions, staffing gaps, and service risks.
