About The Position

The Senior Manager of Marketing & Communications is a strategic leader responsible for the Boulder Chamber's brand voice, marketing execution, and growth in events and membership. This role requires a blend of hands-on content production and strategic direction, operating with urgency on deadline-driven tasks while building the Boulder Chamber's brand over time. The position manages marketing partners, including outsourced providers for marketing automation, social media, and web/technical support, as well as other contractors and freelancers. It involves operational ownership of the marketing department, including financial oversight and project management. The role reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and collaborates with the Leadership Team weekly for strategic guidance and accountability. The position is crucial during high-visibility periods for the Boulder Chamber, such as the 2027 Sundance Film Festival activation and Boulder Together's community initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, or a related field required, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 8-12 years of progressive marketing and communications experience, ideally within a chamber of commerce, trade association, or B2B non-profit environment.
  • Proven track record of managing and producing long-form publications and other ongoing communications and marketing materials from concept and drafting/writing to print.
  • Advanced expertise using project management tools, preferably Airtable, GrowthZone, including building relational databases, creating automated workflows, managing the calendar, and designing interface dashboards for project tracking.
  • 3+ years of experience contributing to and managing a marketing/communications department budget and managing external creative agencies or freelancers.
  • Confident presentation skills, with experience delivering data, analytics, and ROI reports to Leadership.
  • Comfort stepping into speaking opportunities in front of senior executives.
  • Working familiarity with email automation platforms and WordPress CMS, sufficient to direct and evaluate a marketing partner's output.
  • Hands-on, day-to-day administration of membership CRMs (GrowthZone).
  • Hands-on proficiency with Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite and working knowledge of graphic design principles (layout, typography, brand consistency).
  • Exceptional communicator who leads with kindness and curiosity.
  • Deeply motivated by the organization's mission.
  • Ability to handle complexity and rigor.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the Boulder Chamber’s annual Signature Events and Impact Programs across digital, print, and local media.
  • Direct and approve multi-channel campaigns executed by marketing partners to maximize registration, ticket sales, and attendance.
  • Review event and program performance from a marketing perspective and incorporate learnings into future marketing plans.
  • Build dedicated landing pages, registration pipelines, and automated email workflows for events and programs, setting requirements and approving final output.
  • Develop sponsorship fulfillment assets and narratives, using data to demonstrate ROI to sponsors and partners.
  • Manage disaster and emergency communications, directing message content and timing.
  • Collaborate with external partners on major local and regional activities, including shared websites and joint communications.
  • Support Signature Events and other programs with marketing assistance, including content, promotional materials, and campaign execution.
  • Design and draft all public-facing copy, including press releases, social media and newsletter content, executive talking points, advocacy statements, and annual reports.
  • Produce digital content, such as blog entries and multimedia assets, that highlights member and community impact.
  • Review and edit the member newsletter drafted by marketing partners.
  • Serve as the primary media contact for local journalists, managing press lists, scheduling, and outreach.
  • Own Boulder Today, the Boulder Chamber's flagship annual publication, from authoring through design and production.
  • Support department-led publications, including grant or contract impact reports and flagship print editorial assets, handling drafting, layout, and production.
  • Own the marketing plan of work and calendar, building and maintaining it on Airtable and presenting it for organization-wide alignment.
  • Participate in annual Leadership Team planning and budget forecast sessions.
  • Report marketing performance, data, ROI, and growth statistics to the Leadership Team.
  • Direct the Boulder Chamber's digital presence by setting content strategy and direction for the website.
  • Work with the internal website review team and marketing partners on technical website implementation, with the ability to make website updates.
  • Administer GrowthZone day-to-day, Airtable tracking, and social media oversight.
  • Manage outsourced contractors and vendors, directing social media contractor's content calendars and account activity.
  • Source, onboard, and oversee additional graphic design, web, or copywriting support as needed.
  • Coordinate content and timeline management with external marketing contractors, social media contractors, and internal staff.
  • Own the marketing departmental budget process, building the annual forecast and monitoring spend against caps.
  • Negotiate vendor agreements, deliverables, and invoices.
  • Manage marketing projects and deadlines with department leads to achieve organizational goals.
  • Perform other duties, tasks, and responsibilities as assigned.
