Architecture Senior Manager

Capital GroupLos Angeles, CA

About The Position

We are seeking an experienced technology leader to join our Global Technology Strategy & Architecture (GTSA) team as Senior Manager of Data Architecture, factoring AI capabilities across enterprise data. In this role you will partner closely with our Enterprise Data Office and work across our foundational security, platform, data, and infrastructure teams to shape data architecture direction, target state solutions, and multi-year roadmaps that enable an AI Data Ready organization. You will influence and align stakeholders to ensure our data architecture approach supports business outcomes and remains aligned with Capital Group’s IT and security strategy. The successful candidate will be able to work across a highly cross-functional organization, establish trust and credibility with stakeholders, organize and coordinate design workshops, and influence senior leaders on strategy and execution. This role is expected to be hands-on—developing architectures, guiding solution designs, and actively removing blockers to ensure successful delivery of outcomes. You will lead a team of 5–6 architects, coaching and developing talent while partnering with foundational security, platform, data, and infrastructure teams to determine priorities, trade-offs, proof-of-concepts, and delivery plans. You will ensure architectural standards, scalability, and security, enabling Capital Group’s continued transformation toward an AI Data Ready organization.

Requirements

  • 10+ years experience in data architecture, platform strategy, or related technology leadership roles.
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing architecture teams (people leadership and/or strong matrix leadership).
  • Background in AI and ML, with a strong understanding of how data architecture enables analytics and AI/ML use cases end-to-end.
  • Understanding of common enterprise data challenges (data quality, lineage, metadata, governance, privacy/security, interoperability, and scale/performance) and experience addressing them through pragmatic architecture and standards.
  • Expertise across data architecture and modern data platform capabilities, with working knowledge of what it takes to make data AI-ready (trusted data products, secure access, and reusable semantics/features).
  • Strong understanding of architectural principles, standards, and governance frameworks in a global setting.
  • Track record of successful stakeholder engagement and cross-functional collaboration, including partnering with enterprise-level data governance and operating model teams.
  • Ability to drive standardization and simplification in complex environments while enabling measurable outcomes.
  • Commitment to security, privacy, compliance, and resilience in data and AI-enabled solutions.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and people development skills.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Enterprise Data Office and business/technology leaders to define and evolve data architecture strategy, operating model touchpoints, and required investments to enable an AI Data Ready organization.
  • Lead and manage a team of 5–6 architects, including hiring (as needed), coaching, performance support, and capability development.
  • Work across foundational security, platform, data, and infrastructure teams to drive alignment to strategy and ensure delivery of measurable outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain data architecture standards, reference architectures, and best practices (including AI-ready patterns such as metadata, lineage, data quality, and feature/semantic enablement) to promote interoperability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with domain, platform, and product teams to align data platform capabilities with organizational objectives and business domains, ensuring data is discoverable, trusted, and usable for analytics and AI use cases.
  • Be hands-on in architecture and solution design—facilitating design sessions, producing pragmatic artifacts, and guiding teams through option analysis and trade-off decisions.
  • Ensure the integration of robust security, privacy, and compliance requirements throughout the design and implementation of data solutions, including appropriate controls for AI-enabled data access and usage.
  • Participate in architectural governance processes, including target state reviews and architecture review boards, to ensure alignment to enterprise direction and reuse of common patterns.
  • Champion continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and community building across GTSA and data architecture forums.
