About The Position

One Million Degrees (OMD) accelerates community college students’ progress on career pathways to economic mobility. OMD’s holistic support model is designed to support community college students as they work toward degrees and careers, offering tutors, coaches, financial assistance, and professional development. OMD scholars are significantly more likely to enroll, persist, and earn a degree compared to their peers. Currently serving scholars in all 7 of the City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), OMD is scaling to reach over 3,000 community college scholars by 2026. In addition to its partnership with CCC, OMD collaborates with employers to build on-ramps to in-demand jobs through internships and apprenticeships. OMD is also expanding its work with higher education institutions and partners nationwide to support the development of holistic student support models. Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree required in education, Instructional Design, Organizational Development, Education Policy or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in curriculum or instructional design, including experience building content in an LMS.
  • Minimum of five years of teaching or facilitation experience with adult learners.
  • Experience leading and collaborating with diverse teams and subject matter experts.
  • Professional development and staff training experience required.
  • Strong instructional design skills and familiarity with LMS platforms (Brightspace, Canvas, Absorb, Articulate, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adjust style for different audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills; able to engage and support adult learners.
  • Ability to give and receive feedback with clarity, thoughtfulness, and professionalism.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Data-driven mindset with the ability to use evaluation results to inform design choices.
  • Have experience with instructional coaching/facilitation and evaluation.
  • Use data to inform learning needs and training for program team.
  • Comfortable sharing and analyzing scholar outcomes and working to support scholar persistence and completion.
  • Experience/expertise with backwards planning.
  • Experience/expertise in design thinking.
  • Experience/expertise in adult learning theory.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and online collaboration tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters Degree in education, Instructional Design, Organizational Development, Education Policy or related field strongly preferred.
  • Coursework or certification in instructional design required

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team to design and refine scholar-facing curriculum that supports durable skill development, academic persistence, and career readiness.
  • Lead the development and ongoing improvement of Scholar Development Sessions (SDS) curriculum and learning experiences.
  • Create and refine engaging learning materials including facilitation guides, slide decks, activities, and scholar resources.
  • Adapt and improve curriculum based on feedback from scholars, program staff, and program outcomes.
  • Ensure curriculum aligns with OMD’s program goals and supports scholars in building the skills needed for college persistence and career success.
  • Partner with program staff to ensure curriculum is relevant, practical, and responsive to scholar needs.
  • Design and facilitate training workshops that prepare scholar-facing staff to deliver engaging and effective learning experiences.
  • Lead staff in implementing curriculum through modeling facilitation strategies, providing feedback, and sharing instructional best practices.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to staff and managers on workshop facilitation, learner engagement, and classroom management.
  • Support training and preparation for staff delivering Scholar Development Sessions and other scholar-facing workshops.
  • Partner with program managers to identify training needs and develop learning opportunities that strengthen program delivery.
  • Lead the design and oversight of asynchronous learning experiences within OMD’s Learning Management System, ensuring alignment with program goals and learner needs.
  • Guide the translation of in-person curriculum into engaging digital learning experiences that expand access and reinforce scholar skill development.
  • Establish and model best practices for interactive and learner-centered digital learning, incorporating multimedia, applied activities, and engagement strategies.
  • Ensure digital learning experiences are accessible, user-centered, and aligned with OMD’s curriculum standards and program learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate closely with Chicago Program teams to ensure curriculum and training resources support scholar engagement and program delivery.
  • Work with program coordinators and managers to gather feedback and identify opportunities to strengthen scholar learning experiences.
  • Design and lead cross-team collaboration to align curriculum, training, and program implementation efforts.
  • Develop tools, templates, and resources that make curriculum easier for staff to implement.
  • Supervise and support the Curriculum and Training Specialist team member(s).
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and guidance to support strong performance and professional growth.
  • Support coordination of curriculum and training projects across the Curriculum, Training, and Continuous Improvement team.
  • Performs other related responsibilities as assigned.
