About The Position

The Senior Manager, Narrative Intelligence will build the analytical intelligence function supporting Affirm’s Brand & Communications strategy. The role combines original research, first-party data, brand and media measurement, behavioral signals, and external datasets to understand audiences, the factors shaping their perceptions, and opportunities to connect Affirm’s story with them. The position turns complex evidence into strategic recommendations, defines how narrative performance is measured, and identifies what should change based on results. The goal is to make intelligence an ongoing part of decision-making rather than a retrospective report. The role will develop an evidence-based understanding of priority audiences; create a narrative measurement framework and intelligence tools; maintain a continuous feedback loop on how Affirm’s story is received; and connect qualitative, quantitative, behavioral, media, cultural, customer, and business evidence. It will translate findings into implications for positioning, messaging, campaigns, content, and communications planning, while partnering with the Head of Story and teams across Analytics, User Research, Marketing, and other disciplines.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in consumer analytics, audience insights, data science, measurement, strategic intelligence, quantitative research, or a related field.
  • Experience using analysis to shape brand, communications, marketing, product, or creative strategy.
  • Strong quantitative research and analysis skills, including survey design, segmentation, statistical inference, experimentation, and measurement design.
  • Comfort working with large or imperfect datasets and directly using data tools such as SQL, statistical platforms, data visualization, or business intelligence tools.
  • Ability to integrate qualitative insight and quantitative analysis, account for the limits of different sources, and develop analytical frameworks for concepts such as trust, relevance, reputation, and narrative resonance.
  • Ability to identify meaningful signals in complex evidence and explain their implications clearly and usefully to analytical and creative audiences.
  • Ability to collaborate across analytical, strategic, and creative disciplines, including with data scientists, researchers, writers, strategists, executives, and communications leaders.
  • Willingness to test assumptions, challenge weak evidence, and follow data even when it complicates an existing narrative.

Responsibilities

  • Lead research and analysis to understand priority audiences, including who they are, what they value and believe, how they behave, and what might change their beliefs.
  • Use segmentation, surveys, behavioral data, and other analytical approaches to identify the variables that matter most.
  • Develop a narrative measurement framework, including metrics, methodologies, and baselines for evaluating performance across audiences, channels, and time horizons.
  • Partner with Analytics, User Research, Marketing, and other teams to strengthen attribution, experimentation, and understanding of how narrative and reputation contribute to business outcomes.
  • Create tools, dashboards, analytical standards, and a shared knowledge base that make intelligence and performance data accessible and useful to the broader team.
  • Build a continuous, data-informed view of how Affirm’s story is landing; diagnose what is breaking through, misunderstood, ignored, or changing, and recommend next steps.
  • Integrate qualitative research, surveys, brand health, media and social intelligence, search and cultural signals, campaign performance, behavioral data, and customer and business data.
  • Use credible external research about culture, commerce, credit, and related influences; identify patterns, test relationships, surface contradictions, and assess evidence strength.
  • Translate findings into implications for positioning, messaging, campaigns, content, and communications planning.
  • Partner with the Head of Story to build and evolve Affirm’s narrative based on evidence.
  • Turn ambiguous business and communications questions into testable hypotheses and rigorous studies, selecting appropriate surveys, experiments, observational analysis, and qualitative inquiry.
