About The Position

DoorDash Labs, established in 2018, serves as the innovation hub for DoorDash, focusing on developing automation and robotics solutions to enhance last-mile logistics. The team's mission is to create technologies that support and augment human networks, aiming to improve efficiency for Dashers, merchants, and consumers alike. We’re ruthlessly focused on business impact. We are a highly senior team composed of former pioneers from a variety of different robotics industries. As of 2025, DoorDash has completed 10B lifetime deliveries. We’re focused on how to do the next 10B even better. We're hiring a Senior Manager, Manufacturing Engineering to own the process and equipment behind how our autonomous food delivery platform gets built. You'll define how we manufacture and assemble every major system: structures, propulsion, energy systems, controllers, sensing and perception—and build the team to scale from prototype into high-volume production. You'll work hands-on across the shop floor and out at suppliers, driving quality and best practices that stick. This is for someone who thrives in a fast-moving startup environment, is comfortable as the technical authority today while hiring the team that grows around them tomorrow, and gets excited about solving hard problems. You'll get in at the ground floor with the chance to shape how the next generation of food delivery vehicles are engineered and built.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical engineering background with hands-on ownership of manufacturing processes and equipment for complex, multi-system electromechanical products.
  • Direct experience taking a product from prototype into high-volume production.
  • Experience with electric propulsion and powertrains, and enough electrical fluency to work across the mechanical/electrical boundary.
  • Proven ability to qualify and develop suppliers and contract manufacturers and drive quality and yield improvements.
  • Comfortable improving how things are built. Making designs simpler to assemble, reducing waste and cost, and getting to the bottom of quality problems rather than patching symptoms
  • Thrives in a scrappy startup: comfortable with ambiguity, building from zero, and taking on hard problems.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end manufacturing process and equipment—from incoming components through final assembly and functional test—including the tooling, fixtures, and work instructions that make it repeatable.
  • Work directly with design engineers to influence design for manufacturability early, so every major system is optimized for cost, yield, and assembly before it reaches the floor.
  • Select and stand up the right manufacturing execution system (MES), and build in traceability and serialization across the entire vehicle.
  • Qualify and hold suppliers and contract manufacturers to a high bar through on-site visits and process audits.
  • Own the metrics that matter—first-pass yield, cost per unit, throughput, scrap/rework—using data and structured problem-solving to drive them.
  • Hire, mentor, and grow the team, serving as the technical authority on process changes as we scale.
