About The Position

The Sr Manager, Logistics & Transportation drives shareholder value by leading and optimizing the Company's supply chain operations, including US Transportation, Inventory Control, Internal & Third-Party Warehouse Operations, and North America Inbound Container Management across US and Canada Locations. The role provides strategic direction, operational leadership, and continuous improvement expertise to ensure efficient product flow, inventory accuracy, cost-effective distribution, and exceptional service performance. Responsible for leading and developing the Logistics, Transportation, and Inventory Management teams, the position establishes and monitors key performance indicators, implements scalable processes, and fosters a culture of accountability and operational excellence. The Sr Manager, Logistics & Transportation builds and maintains strong relationships with Customs Brokers, Ocean Carriers, Port Authorities, Rail Providers, USDA Inspectors, third-party warehouse providers, transportation carriers, and internal stakeholders, while collaborating closely with Customer Service, Sales, Finance, and Operations to align inventory availability, inbound product prioritization, and customer fulfillment requirements. Through effective leadership, cross-functional partnership, and execution of supply chain strategies, this role ensures operational efficiency, business continuity, and the capability to support the Company's growth objectives.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree
  • 10 years’ experience working with inbound container clearance, nation-wide logistics and transportation carriers, and third party warehouse management in the perishable food industry
  • Hands-on experience and deep understanding of port arrivals and container clearances, including third party logistics, warehousing, distribution, inventory management and reconciliation
  • Prior experience managing cross functional teams, improving collaboration and communications
  • High level proficiency with MS Office, with advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent time management and problem solving skills
  • Proven organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to multitask and work collaboratively with a sense of urgency and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to handle high work volumes and multiple priorities with consistent high quality and adherence to strict deadlines
  • Enthusiastic, flexible and consistent with a strong team work attitude
  • Proven people manager, able to motivate a team and ensure cross training of team members, with a focus on mentoring, coaching and long-term development

Responsibilities

  • Leads the Company's third-party warehouse network, including Americold East & West and other contracted storage providers, to ensure the efficient receipt, storage, handling, and distribution of products. Owns warehouse service performance, operational execution, and issue resolution across all facilities. Establishes and manages warehouse partner expectations, monitors compliance with contractual service levels, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures warehousing operations consistently support customer service, inventory, and business objectives.
  • Ensures effective administrative processes for freight and storage are established, implemented and maintained consistently across all carriers and warehouses. Manages the transport operations; including transport provider contract negotiation and contract commitments, freight quotation management, and product storage contracts. Oversees outbound order allocations of fresh and frozen products to customers’ distribution centers nationally.
  • Leads the Company's North American import container network to ensure efficient, cost-effective movement of product from port to warehouse. Responsible for port and rail container turns, drayage carrier management, demurrage and detention prevention, container visibility, equipment utilization, import flow into Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and other distribution locations, and ownership of key inbound logistics KPIs including turn time, dwell time, rail velocity, and demurrage costs. Collaborates with carriers, brokers, ports, rail providers, warehouses, and internal stakeholders to ensure uninterrupted product flow and inventory availability.
  • Ensures the required supply of product is delivered to the processing plants in a timely manner as required to support the business and meet customer orders. Oversees Inventory control function nationally to maintain appropriate levels of fresh and frozen product.
  • Leads the planning, implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of ERP and Transportation Management Systems across U.S. operations. Partners with IT, Finance, Customer Service, Sales, Warehousing, and Transportation teams to ensure successful system adoption, process standardization, data integrity, and operational efficiency. Oversees system enhancements, user training, change management initiatives, and performance measurement to maximize visibility across inventory, transportation, warehousing, and customer fulfillment activities. Drives continuous improvement through technology-enabled solutions, workflow automation, KPI reporting, and advanced supply chain analytics while ensuring systems support current business requirements and future growth objectives.
  • Collaborates with Customer Service team and implements consistency across the group around building orders aligned to priority containers, enhancing order entry processes, verifying orders are allocated from 1 warehouse only, fostering collaboration across regions and resolving issues. Oversees efficient inbound container prioritization, clearance and receipt to appropriate 3rd party storage facilities for effective order allocations to best meet customer fulfilment.
  • Manages functional teams and provides direction and regular coaching, mentoring and support. Sets challenging yet attainable KPIs with team members and provides job enrichment opportunities to develop skills and retain staff. Administers the Company’s Human Resources Policies and Procedures with respect to hiring, management, discipline, and performance decisions. Leads by example and corrects behavior in others to reflect Company values. Responsible for the following functions: National Logistics & Transportation coordinators (5), National Inventory Management (3), Raw Materials Warehouse Manager (1). Team size and geographic location may expand over time to further improve consistent processes and practices across the teams.
  • Proactively seeks to understand the Company and builds strong mutually beneficial relationships with internal and external stakeholders to improve overall flow, accuracy, communications and service levels. Keeps others apprised of key decision making. Fosters a high degree of collaboration despite competing priorities and expectations across stakeholders.
  • Regular travel to West Coast & Canada office to review and oversee operations and ensure practices are adopted and integrated to meet the needs of the business as it continues to grow.
