About The Position

We’re seeking a Senior Manager, HCP Conferences to lead the strategy, design, and delivery of Diabetes Canada’s flagship national Professional Conference. Reporting to the Executive Director, HCP Education & Engagement, this role offers the opportunity to shape one of the organization’s most visible and impactful professional education initiatives. This role provides end-to-end leadership for a multi-day, national conference that convenes approximately 1,500 healthcare providers, researchers, trainees, and partners from across Canada. Bringing together program strategy, scientific and professional collaboration, accreditation oversight, financial stewardship, and operational excellence, the Senior Manager, HCP Conferences plays a critical part in advancing education, engagement, reputation, and revenue goals. The National Office is located at 1000–170 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. We offer a flexible work arrangement, allowing employees to work remotely while occasionally coming into the office as required by their manager or the organization. The role requires travel to attend the annual Professional Conference, as well as, conference preparations and related meetings, as required.

Requirements

  • 7–10 years’ experience managing large and complex multi-million-dollar initiatives with vested interests from multiple stakeholders.
  • Related post-secondary education, or equivalent experience, ideally in health and/or social sciences and/or event management.
  • Experience in matrixed program management, including group facilitation, consensus-building & agenda setting, and conflict resolution.
  • Proven ability to manage vendors, sponsors, committees, and contractors.
  • Experience leading or mentoring team members in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with event and project management systems.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and project manage Diabetes Canada’s national Professional Conference end-to-end, from planning and program design through delivery, monitoring, and post-event evaluation.
  • Serve as the central coordinating body across conference workstreams, ensuring alignment of priorities, timelines, and dependencies across internal teams, committees, and external partners.
  • Oversee development and delivery of conference programming, including pre-conference workshops, plenary and concurrent education sessions, abstracts and poster presentations, and keynote programming.
  • Oversee accreditation processes, ensuring all educational programming meets continuing professional development standards.
  • Prepare and manage the conference budget and revenue targets, in consultation with senior leadership and Corporate Partnerships, and oversee all related expenses and revenue.
  • Monitor expenditures and manage financial risk throughout the conference lifecycle to ensure strong fiscal accountability.
  • Liaise with internal teams and external partners to establish conference and ancillary event priorities.
  • Engage, manage, and oversee vendors, suppliers, exhibitors, and an Event Logistics Contractor, including venue sourcing, vendor negotiations, on-site logistics, and supplier performance.
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders including Mission teams, Fund Development, Marketing & Communications, Finance, and Volunteer Engagement to ensure integrated planning and execution.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Coordinator, HCP Conferences, supporting performance, development, and accountability while fostering a collaborative, high-performing working environment.
  • Partner with Marketing & Communications to develop and execute conference marketing, digital campaigns, and delegate communications.
  • Collaborate with Fund Development to support sponsorship strategy, exhibitor participation, and fulfillment of sponsorship deliverables.
  • Prepare comprehensive post-conference reporting, including financial results, sponsor reporting, and participant evaluations, and develop recommendations to inform continuous improvement of future conferences.
