The high level The Sr. Manager, FP&A is an essential member of the Finance and Accounting team leading the FP&A function and reporting directly to the Managing Director of FP&A (MDFP&A). The Sr. Manager, FP&A will provide business and financial support to the Managing Director of FP&A and various budget leaders within a national, distributed organization. The position assists in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial reports and analyses for various national departments and regional Executive Directors, and, as needed, serves as a liaison between national and regional teams. The position provides regular support to other Finance-related functions, such as the month-end close process. The position's key focus will include the automation of key processes and reporting tools. The ideal candidate will possess advanced skills in financial systems such as Workday Adaptive Planning, Salesforce, and Intacct or demonstrate a high-level of proficiency in comparable enterprise platforms. A strong foundation in accounting principles, particularly those related to revenue recognition and the timing differences between revenue recognition for restricted awards and cash receipts, is essential. Preference will be given to candidates with governmental or nonprofit financial management experience with a demonstrated ability to translate complex accounting and budgeting concepts into actionable insights for program and development teams. The objective of the Finance team is to maximize student outcomes over the long term through the efficient, effective, and sustainable allocation of financial resources. Our work is rooted in supporting leaders who bring program expertise and recruit and train community volunteers in making effective budgetary decisions. We help empower leaders with high-quality financial information and advice that is accurate and timely. This position is remote, and hires (upon start date) should reside within states where Reading Partners operates, which include: California, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Washington State, and Virginia.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of relevant job experience in financial planning and analysis (FP&A)
  • Possess robust and relevant job experience in roles with increasing responsibility; nonprofit experience a plus
  • Extensive knowledge of financial planning software (e.g. Adaptive, Sage Intact, PowerBi, Cognos) strongly preferred; familiarity with Salesforce a plus
  • Proven experience managing nonprofit cash flow projections, including forecasting liquidity and aligning restricted and unrestricted funds with operational needs.
  • Have experience managing across the organization (business partnering)
  • Display strong analytical and financial modeling skills
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to successfully convey financial concepts to non-finance colleagues
  • Able to adapt to changing organizational needs and priorities and juggle multiple projects while meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrate strategic and analytical thinking abilities and strong problem-solving skills
  • Exhibit excellent professional judgment
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Management information systems, or any other related field.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the MDFP&A with the annual strategic planning process.
  • Assist in building financial models and forecasting tools that allow for long-term scenario planning in support of the strategic planning process.
  • Support the annual budgeting and monthly forecast processes.
  • As needed, prepare monthly reporting of financial performance and variance analysis of financial results by region/function.
  • With the support and oversight of the MDFP&A, educate the leadership team in the stewardship of its key financial metrics.
  • Work with the MDFP&A on cash flow forecasts.
  • As needed, analyze trends in spending and behavior in order to maximize resource allocation and results.
  • Drive operational excellence across the organization by evaluating, refining, creating, and supporting systems and processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness as we continue to grow in size and complexity.
  • Lead Revenue planning and forecasting activities for short term (monthly/quarterly) & long term (annual budget, 3 yr plan)
  • Revenue Monitoring - provide actuals vs projections variance analysis
  • Build financial forecasts, track performance and understand deviations from actuals to drive strategy and operational rigor
  • Work closely with Development & Regional leadership to review & analyze revenue pipeline, strategy, and market expansion
  • Gain deep knowledge and understanding of grants & school agreements regarding revenues.
  • Work on ad-hoc projects and prepare strategic analysis and presentations for finance leadership
  • Support process improvement in relation to weekly/monthly/quarterly key FP&A deliverables
  • Develop key financial reports (standardize) and other materials for the quarterly Board of Directors meetings.
  • As needed, prepare accurate and timely financial reports to funders/ donors, as required.
  • Manage financial information, including support documentation for grant reports and proposals.
  • Assist with preparing and submitting compliance reports and filings with various state and local entities.
  • Assist with tracking and reporting compliance with line of credit covenants.
  • Other duties as needed.
