About The Position

Thunderbird, a globally trusted open-source email application with over 20 million users, is seeking a Senior Manager, Finance & Accounting. MZLA, the organization behind Thunderbird, focuses on building privacy-respecting communication and productivity tools. As a growing company of 70+ people across seven countries, MZLA is expanding its offerings beyond the desktop application to include mobile, paid services, and new product experiences. The company's revenue model combines user donations with paid services to ensure sustainability and innovation. MZLA Technologies Corporation, a nonprofit-owned entity and part of the Mozilla family, operates independently with its own compensation and benefits programs. This role is for a finance leader with a strong accounting or controllership background, capable of leading financial planning and analysis, finance operations, and providing decision support. As MZLA's financial complexity increases with growth in donations, subscriptions, enterprise offerings, and international operations, this position will be crucial for integrating accounting and FP&A, overseeing new revenue models and tax obligations, and providing clear financial analysis to leadership. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Manager will be the most senior finance professional, managing the Senior Staff Accountant and Senior FP&A Analyst. This hands-on leadership role requires strong financial judgment, team development, and the ability to build essential systems, controls, reporting, and finance practices for the organization's growth. The role requires regular overlap with North American time zones and flexibility for meetings with European colleagues.
