About The Position

BIO is the premier biotechnology advocacy organization representing biotech companies, industry leaders, and state biotech associations in the United States and more than 35 countries around the globe. BIO members range from biotech start-ups to some of the world’s largest biopharmaceutical companies – all united by the same goal: to develop medical and scientific breakthroughs that prevent and fight disease, restore health, and improve patients’ lives. BIO also organizes the BIO International Convention and a series of annual conferences that drive partnerships, investment, and progress within the sector. The Senior Manager, Federal Government Relations (FGR) will advocate on behalf of Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) and the biotechnology industry in relation to enterprise appropriations across BIO’s diverse membership. The role involves engaging with member companies and members of Congress to advance the industry’s policy priorities. The individual will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop and execute bipartisan political strategies that address key biotechnology issues, policies, and to promote innovation and growth in the sector.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 5+ years experience working on Capitol Hill and understanding of the appropriations process
  • Strong understanding of budget and appropriations process and timelines.
  • Strong knowledge of the Federal legislative process.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as lobbyist on Appropriations issues, including Healthcare and Infectious Disease issues
  • Develop and maintain relationships across Congress with a focus on Appropriations
  • Work closely with the BIO policy departments and member companies to develop and inform legislative strategies to advance strategic objectives.
  • In conjunction with the FGR team, develop and implement political strategy and outreach plans with Congress.
  • Identify and manage BIO participation and leadership in relevant coalitions to advance policy priorities.
