About The Position

TAR is building the world's first off-grid power plants for data centers, powered by renewable technologies. The company is focused on delivering GW-scale power faster than ever before by vertically integrating to solve bottlenecks across the stack. TAR is working with a major compute provider to deploy 5GWs by 2028. This role is at the intersection of AI and energy, a critical focus in Washington. The Government Relations Lead (Federal) will own TAR's federal agenda and political relationships to protect project economics. This includes influencing clean energy tax credits, domestic content rules, and tariff policy. The goal is to ensure TAR's model is considered in future AI infrastructure and energy legislation. The position is a one-person Washington operation with full autonomy and direct access to founders. The role can be based in Washington, DC, or in Austin or San Francisco offices with frequent travel to DC. The ideal candidate believes American energy abundance is foundational to AI leadership.

Requirements

Meaningful experience on Capitol Hill, in an Administration, on campaigns, or in a federal affairs role, with established relationships with members, chiefs of staff, committee staff, and key influencers.
Experience with energy, tax, tech, or infrastructure issues, with the ability to discuss topics like ITC mechanics or identify the right experts.
Proven track record of influencing legislation, including getting provisions into or out of bills, markups, or rules.
Demonstrated ability to manage lobbyists and trade associations effectively to amplify efforts.
Skills in organizing site visits, preparing executives for testimony, and crafting effective talking points.
Comfort operating autonomously as a one-person Washington operation for a fast-paced company, with full accountability for outcomes.
Belief that American energy abundance is the foundation of AI leadership.

Responsibilities

Set and run TAR's federal strategy, including defining advocacy priorities, building the legislative agenda, and determining engagement across Congress and the Administration.
Build and maintain relationships with members of Congress and their staff, with a focus on the Texas delegation, energy and tax committee staff, and AI policy leaders.
Monitor and shape legislation impacting the business, such as energy tax credits, AI infrastructure and permitting bills, trade and tariff measures, and data center policy, briefing leadership on developments and necessary actions.
Coordinate outside resources, including selecting and managing contract lobbyists, overseeing trade association memberships and working groups (SEIA, ACP, data center and AI coalitions), and determining TAR's leadership role versus coalition support.
Run political visibility initiatives, such as site visits for members and staff, congressional testimony, delegation briefings, fly-ins, and related press opportunities.
Represent TAR in discussions with the White House, OSTP, DOE, and Commerce regarding AI infrastructure and energy policy.
Ensure lobbying compliance, including LDA registration and reporting, and adherence to political activity policies, in coordination with legal counsel.
Partner with state and local government affairs, development, and communications teams to ensure a unified message between Washington and operational sites.
