About The Position

At Schwab, the Senior Manager, External Communications works within Corporate Affairs to shape how senior leaders across Schwab Advisor Services and Workplace Services communicate with clients, industry audiences, and other key stakeholders. The role translates complex business priorities into speeches, presentations, talking points, thought leadership, and client-facing communications that reflect each leader’s authentic voice and strengthen Schwab’s story. The Senior Manager serves as a trusted communications advisor to senior leaders and owns high-profile initiatives from strategy through execution. The position prepares leaders for key client and industry engagements, coordinates communications across teams and channels, and maintains an integrated view of announcements, events, and leadership commitments. The role anticipates needs, adapts to changing priorities, identifies opportunities to strengthen messaging and address potential risks, and ensures communications are timely, consistent, and impactful. Success calls for exceptional writing and storytelling, sound business judgment, discretion, and trusted relationships with senior leaders, chiefs of staff, and Corporate Affairs partners.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree.
7+ years of experience in executive communications, corporate communications, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated experience supporting executive communications, including speeches, talking points, presentations, and external remarks for senior leaders.
Experience developing client or stakeholder communications on behalf of senior executives, with careful attention to audience, tone, and relationship dynamics.
Exceptional writing and storytelling skills, including the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, compelling content and adapt to different leadership voices.
Strong business acumen and decision-making skills, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Strong project management, organization, and priority management skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple communications and deadlines accurately.
Ability to build collaborative relationships, solve problems, and adapt quickly within a complex, fast-moving environment.

Nice To Haves
