About The Position

This role is for a Senior Manager of Enterprise Data, designed for internal use and for one individual. The role is an individual contributor/hands-on position with one interim direct report, the Data Operations Analyst. The responsibilities span Data Engineering & Development, Enterprise Data Architecture, Analytics & Business Intelligence, and Technical Execution & Management.

  • Experience with SSIS packages and ETL/ELT pipelines
  • Experience owning the performance, reliability, and maintainability of data pipelines
  • Experience following and documenting engineering standards and best practices
  • Experience owning and optimizing data marts

  • Experience documenting current-state architecture and data layer options
  • Experience leading technical evaluations for data layer direction
  • Experience leading technical design and build for data layer execution
  • Experience partnering with stakeholders to translate strategy into technical roadmaps
  • Experience building advanced analytics and self-service reporting
  • Experience designing, building, or advising on dashboards and data visualizations
  • Experience partnering with business stakeholders to translate ambiguous questions into analytics deliverables
  • Experience managing direct reports, including goal-setting, direction, feedback, and development
  • Experience upholding data-quality standards
  • Experience reviewing testing and validation

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain SSIS packages and ETL/ELT pipelines to move and transform data across the organization.
  • Own the performance, reliability, and maintainability of the company’s data pipelines.
  • Follow and document engineering standards and best practices for how data is built and moved.
  • Own and optimize the existing data marts, including the in-flight production data mart through go-live.
  • Design and evolve the data models and structures that underpin the company’s reporting and analytics.
  • Document the current-state architecture, the limits of mart-based reporting, and the options for where the company’s data layer should go next.
  • Lead the technical evaluation of where the data layer should go from here — continued mart refinement, consolidation into a unified warehouse, or a hybrid path — producing written recommendations with tradeoffs on cost, time, scalability, and vendor exposure.
  • Once a direction is chosen, lead the technical design and build to execute it end-to-end.
  • Partner with the VP of Enterprise Data & Technology (once hired) to translate company data strategy into a buildable technical roadmap; until then, strategic architecture decisions are made by written recommendation with COO sign-off.
  • Build advanced analytics and self-service reporting that answer recurring, high-value business questions and let business users answer their own questions without engineering involvement.
  • Design, build, or advise team members on dashboards and data visualizations that clearly surface key metrics for operational and executive audiences.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to translate ambiguous questions into well-defined analytics deliverables and ensure that insights are adopted and acted on.
  • Directly manage the Data Operations Analyst, including goal-setting, day-to-day direction, performance feedback, and development.
  • Uphold data-quality standards for the datasets you and the analyst build and validate, and review the analyst’s testing and validation.
  • Serve as a hands-on technical resource for the broader team.
