About The Position

The Senior Manager, Engineering role in the Core Platform is accountable for building, maintaining and evolving the culture and community of software engineers. This role is responsible for coaching on knowledge, skills and performance, building and evolving their capabilities, and advising engineers on their work to ensure solutions meet business needs and are aligned with technology strategies and emerging industry standards. This includes planning, evaluating, recommending, designing, operationalizing, and supporting solutions in compliance with enterprise and industry standards. The role provides deep technical leadership and development experience in end-to-end execution of solutions, ensuring alignment with the Organization's Target Operating Model (TOM), technology roadmap and approach, and enterprise architecture/technologies.

Requirements

  • University or postgraduate degree; (e.g., computer science, engineering preferred)
  • 10+ years of mainframe application design, development and operational support experience (Financial Industry Preferred)
  • 2-3 years of leadership/collaborator role(s) on multi-application / multi-platform solutions
  • Working experience mainframe skills with the following: COBOL, JCL, VSAM, TSO, ISPF, IMS DC/DB, zOS Connect
  • Database: IMS DB, DB2, IMS MQ
  • Source Control: Endevor
  • Job scheduling tools: CA-7, Autosys, AWF

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with partners and stakeholders to ensure technical solutions meet technical direction, requirements, budget, scalability and architectural goals, ensuring all risks and impacts are considered.
  • Leverage deep technology expertise to support in the creation and delivery of end-to-end technical solutions and help to support driving business outcomes.
  • Participate in business planning discussions and define the technology delivery approach, and leverage synergies across the various teams and applications.
  • Act as lead expert to ensure compliance with enterprise and segment standards (e.g. TOM; enterprise assets).
  • Monitor and manage incident escalation process; work with technical and business partners as needed to efficiently and effectively resolve.
  • Experience in managing complicated legacy applications. Identify and implement opportunities to minimize and reduce cost.
  • Collaborate with partners and project teams on software quality assurance reviews.
  • Drive and execute on target state and roadmap-based investments.
  • Execute on strategic solution planning activities or POC.
  • Work with partners across Technology and apply deep understanding of relevant business needs to identify and leverage synergies across the various areas and projects.
  • Anticipate internal/external business and regulatory issues; recommend process/product/organizational improvements.
  • Manage resource requirements and assignments, ensuring project milestones are met and monitoring to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Oversee business expenses and FTE plans and ensure controls in place to monitor, effectively track and manage to establish plans.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of external development, technology and emerging solutions, market conditions and their impact.
  • Proactively identify emerging technologies and innovative solutions for building more robust platform domains.
  • Interact with governance and control groups, (e.g. regulatory and operational risk, compliance and audit) to provide subject matter expertise and consult on risk issues / items relating to technology and tools.

  • Lead teams to deliver solutions in assigned functional area, meet SLA’s, Interface with IT, finance, audit, business unit management and other areas of TD to ensure integrated processes, efficient introduction of new technologies, retirement of obsolete technologies and support for business-led initiatives requiring the capabilities of the Engineering function.
  • Lead / manage a team of Engineers / Technology Specialists and oversee related engineering analysis activities and deliverables.
  • Provide overall team leadership, training, coaching, development, succession, recruitment and resource management, and ensure on-going feedback and assessments occur and development plans exist for each team member.
  • Leverage deep technology expertise for own area of specialization to deliver and ensure that all areas across the organization that provision, manage and support various technologies have the necessary tools, processes and documentation required to effectively execute on their respective mandates.
  • Execute Engineering strategy as it relates to the introduction of tools and the automation of build, test, release and configure activities across Application, Platform and Infrastructure.
  • Partner with the Operations team to automatically integrate with appropriate tools and processes as part of automated/self-serve Application, Platform or Infrastructure releases.
  • Work with partners across Technology and apply in-depth understanding of relevant business needs to identify and leverage synergies across the various areas.
  • Act as the expert or lead innovator and agent of change for the programs and services under management.
  • Lead interface with other technology teams to implement best practices, standards and management.
  • Work with vendor platform providers and engineering peers to keep abreast of trends, products, frameworks, and applications.
  • Identify and effectively manage stakeholder engagement and impact across the enterprise.
  • Engage executive stakeholders appropriately to review progress and obtain input, validation and approval of key decisions.
  • Anticipate client needs to influence the development of innovative engineering solutions as well as business strategies.
  • Lead Technical solutions at the Product Group level.
  • Deep expertise and knowledge of specific domain or broad range of experience in technology domains, including understanding of in-house and third-party architecture integration.
  • Advanced and highly specialized knowledge of TD applications, systems, networks, innovation, design activities, best practices, business / organization, Bank standards, regulatory and compliance standards, and may fulfill a governance role.
  • Expert technical skills and a strong understanding of the team's product; technology and issues.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to several teams across the enterprise and solves cross-department issues.
  • Participates in the development of business strategies.
  • Ensures solutions are consistent with organizational objectives.
  • Utilize subject matter expertise to introduce new technologies, or new versions of existing technologies, into the organization.
