About The Position

EvenUp is a fast-growing vertical SaaS company that uses technology and AI to help personal injury lawyers and victims secure faster settlements and better outcomes. Our Discovery Operations service is an AI-powered, fully managed discovery solution for personal injury litigation firms. We handle the entire discovery workflow, from interrogatories and requests for production to case-analysis reporting, delivering firm-ready, expert-reviewed work product with guaranteed turnaround times. This role is hybrid, requiring both subject-matter expertise in personal injury litigation discovery and operational skills to design and scale the service delivery team. The Senior Manager, Discovery Operations will report to the VP, Operations and be accountable for delivery quality, turnaround times, and team health.

Requirements

  • J.D. and active bar license in good standing in at least one U.S. state.
  • 7+ years of personal injury litigation experience, with substantial hands-on discovery work (drafting and defending written discovery, objections, motion practice around discovery disputes).
  • Prior experience managing people and/or leading a team or function (e.g., direct manager, practice group lead, operations lead in a legal or legal-services setting).
  • Comfort operating with metrics and SLAs, thinking in terms of turnaround time, quality rate, and throughput.
  • Working fluency with legal tech/AI-assisted drafting tools and a clear point of view on where AI output needs human judgment.
  • Ability to translate legal nuance into clear, buildable guidance for non-lawyers.
  • Genuine comfort with ambiguity, as this is a new function in a fast-growing company.

Responsibilities

  • Own the legal quality bar as the in-house expert on discovery practice across PI jurisdictions, including interrogatories, RFPs, RFAs, objections, meet-and-confer standards, and motions to compel.
  • Define and maintain quality standards, templates, and playbooks, and review or spot-check output on complex cases.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and Data Science to translate legal expertise into AI-powered systems.
  • Stay current on statutory and common-law changes affecting discovery nationwide and update team guidance and client-facing SLAs.
  • Act as an escalation point for legally sensitive judgment calls.
  • Design the end-to-end delivery workflow, including intake, drafting, QA/review, and client sign-off.
  • Build the staffing model for the delivery team, managing attorneys, paralegals, and reviewers, or establishing team leads/pods.
  • Own and report key metrics such as turnaround time, quality/error rate, client satisfaction, and throughput per FTE.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, including where automation and human review should be applied.
  • Hire, coach, and develop the team, setting standards for legal rigor and operational discipline.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for escalations, edge cases, or account-level issues between the Discovery team and firm leadership/clients.
