About The Position

Omidyar Network (ON) is a philanthropic organization dedicated to guiding the digital revolution towards shared power, prosperity, and possibility. ON commits resources to initiatives that align with its vision for a digital future steered by shared humanity. The Communications Team is responsible for ON's communications strategy, brand management, external relations, and digital presence. They also collaborate with the Programs and Policy team on narrative storytelling campaigns to advance the organization's impact goals. This role will manage core communications functions, including the execution of ON’s editorial calendar, media relations strategy, and events. The position will also support executive presence and visibility, assist ON grantees and partners in raising their profiles, and drive internal communications. The Senior Manager/Director will partner with the Head of Communications and the Programs and Policy team on strategic campaigns and thought leadership. Working within a small communications team, the individual will enhance ON’s visibility, voice, and influence across various audiences, including policymakers, funders, civil society, tech and business leaders, media, cultural influencers, staff, and board members. Reporting to the Head of Communications, this role involves significant interaction with the CEO, Senior Vice President of Programs and Policy, and the Chief Operating Officer. The position can be filled at either the Senior Manager or Director level, contingent upon the candidate's experience and qualifications.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in strategic communications, with experience in one or more of the following: technology, philanthropy, social impact, or agency roles
  • Expertise spanning brand management, media relations, digital strategy, content, and campaign management
  • Demonstrated experience managing external communications agencies and partners, providing strategic direction, overseeing deliverables, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals
  • Strong ability to devise clear communications and influence goals, design strategies to reach key influence targets, and execute communications campaigns
  • Experience developing and implementing digital communications strategies and strategic events
  • Fluency in substantive issues in digital technology
  • Deep understanding of the evolving media and digital comms landscape, and skill in crafting messaging and campaigns to break through in crowded information environments
  • Collaborative working style with demonstrated success in matrix organizations and cross-functional environments
  • High emotional intelligence with exceptional relationship-building and stakeholder management capabilities
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with comfort navigating ambiguity

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day execution of ON’s communications strategy
  • Develop and implement communications initiatives that establish ON’s market positioning, strengthen its reputation, and influence discourse on critical technology issues
  • Implement a brand strategy that differentiates ON and positions the firm as a preeminent voice in tech and philanthropy
  • Devise ways to compellingly tell the story of our mission and our work, communicating to diverse audiences how we work to strengthen societal governance of tech, and ensure more people have agency to shape how tech impacts their lives
  • Own and direct digital communications channels, including website, social media platforms, newsletters, podcasts, and emerging digital touchpoints
  • Design and implement measurement frameworks that help the team track return on investment and make strategic tradeoffs
  • Manage and supervise vendor relationships with agencies and consultants
  • Manage and execute executive visibility programs that position ON’s CEO and senior staff as authoritative voices at the intersection of technology and social impact
  • Lead event preparation, execution and follow up for the CEO – supporting preparations and logistics for all major external forums, briefing of the principal, planning for key side meetings, and development of talking points and/or speeches
  • Manage inbound media inquiries
  • Design and execute high-impact events, including flagship convenings, industry conferences, and exclusive stakeholder gatherings that advance organizational priorities
  • Lead strategic sponsorship opportunities
  • Manage a rolling annual calendar of external forums and events at the intersection of technology, politics, and markets, and develop a strategy and plan for ON’s presence
  • Collaborate with members of the Programs and Policy team to amplify and elevate the work of our grantees and partners via ON communications channels
  • Support the launch and promotion of new programmatic initiatives and strategic partnerships
  • Work with the Head of Communications, executive team, and the Programs and Policy team to design and implement integrated campaigns that advance firm influence goals, drive engagement, and support the work of our partners
  • Develop internal communications that support organizational clarity and culture, including monthly All-Hands meetings
  • Serve as part of internal working groups focused on strengthening organizational culture and employee engagement
  • Support ON’s CEO with talking points and presentations for key moments
