About The Position

The Senior Manager, Data Science - Marketplace Payments leads a team of data scientists and uses advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI to deliver actionable insights for strategic business decisions. The role leads end-to-end model development, validation, deployment, and scalable AI/ML solutions within complex data ecosystems. It works cross-functionally to translate business challenges into data-driven strategies and deliver operational impact. As a people leader, this role coaches and develops a high-performing team, provides technical thought leadership, champions emerging AI capabilities, and drives innovation through scalable solutions. The Marketplace Payments & Financial Services team supports the Marketplace ecosystem through reliable seller payouts, monetization, expansion of financial products, and management of financial and compliance risks. Its Data Science function develops advanced models and AI/ML capabilities for Payments and Financial Services, collaborating across teams to build scalable financial services and support business goals. The role leads scalable Data Science and AI solutions for a global Marketplace Payments platform, defines technical vision and modeling frameworks, and partners with Product, Engineering, Operations, and Business leaders. It also helps build a global data platform, shared data assets and feature sets, and model monitoring capabilities. The position is available in Bentonville, Arkansas, or Sunnyvale, California.

Requirements

Proven expertise in machine learning, predictive analytics, advanced statistical modeling, and AI, with a record of delivering scalable solutions with measurable business impact.
Demonstrated technical leadership defining data science strategy and establishing best practices across the model lifecycle.
Strong people leadership experience, including building, coaching, and developing high-performing data science or analytics teams.
Expertise in Python, SQL, enterprise data architecture, and scalable AI/ML solutions.
Ability to influence senior leaders and cross-functional partners and translate complex business challenges into data-driven strategies.
Experience building globally scalable analytics capabilities and championing adoption of emerging AI technologies.
Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and 5 years of experience in an analytics-related field; or a master’s degree in one of those fields and 3 years of related experience; or 7 years of experience in an analytics or related field.

Nice To Haves

Experience in data science, machine learning, or optimization models.
Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or Econometrics.
Successful completion of one or more assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R.
Supervisory experience.
Experience using open-source frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or Torch.
Background creating inclusive digital experiences and knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices.
Payments experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

Lead development of scalable Data Science and AI solutions for a global Marketplace Payments platform across current and future marketplaces.
Define the technical vision, roadmap, and modeling frameworks for Payments and Financial Services.
Partner with Product, Engineering, Operations, and Business leaders to deliver data-driven solutions that shape product strategy.
Partner with Engineering and Product to build a scalable global marketplaces data platform, data assets, shared feature sets, and model monitoring capabilities.
Champion adoption of emerging AI capabilities to improve decision-making, automation, and customer experience.
Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of data scientists.
Provide technical thought leadership and drive continuous innovation across the organization.
Lead end-to-end model development, validation, and deployment.
