About The Position

Metropolitan Ministries is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of poor and homeless individuals in Tampa Bay since 1972. They provide practical help and make a significant difference for families in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Polk, and Hernando counties. This role leads the CREATE Early Childhood program, focusing on daily operations, staff supervision, and collaboration with Head Start. The position also involves supporting parents, teachers, and staff through training and resources to foster children's learning and development.

Requirements

  • A minimum of an AA degree in an education, health, or social services related field, OR 10 years' experience in the childcare field.
  • Director’s credentials required.
  • Direct experience working with children and parents required.
  • Must work effectively with children and parents, representing and communicating their status and progress to small groups and professionals within a network comprised of the school district, Metropolitan Ministries service providers, and applicable and related medical social service providers in the surrounding community.
  • Must be able to work within a multi-disciplinary team framework.
  • Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.

  • Demonstrates maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences in clients served.
  • Ability to handle job-related matters in a professional, diplomatic, and confidential manner.

  • Requires understanding of poverty, a high degree of maturity, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with low socio-economic and diverse populations facing crises professionally and diplomatically.
  • Knowledge of community resources available to homeless population.
  • Must demonstrate maturity and sensitivity to issues of faith, culture, and other sources of diversity.
  • Ability to work as part of a team within a multi-disciplinary framework.
  • Must pass applicable pre-employment screening and demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must pass required background pre-employment screening.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to transport self and clients when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the CREATE Early Childhood program, including day-to-day operations, staff supervision, and coordination with Head Start.
  • Provide training and tools to parents, teachers, and staff to support children's learning and development.
  • Oversee the early childhood program, developing and implementing programs/processes for improvements.
  • Assess program quality, parent involvement, staff development, education component, and performance guidelines.
  • Coordinate in-service training, facilitate team meetings, and ensure team attendance at assigned meetings.
  • Conduct or delegate inspections of classrooms, work areas, grounds, playground, and transportation for safety, orderliness, sanitation, and cleanliness.
  • Perform child file audits.
  • Coordinate, track, and report data for grant compliance, Early Learning Coalition requirements, and parent volunteer hours.
  • Guide the team in training, program implementation, documentation, and outcomes reporting.
  • Manage the School Readiness voucher process, including assessing new enrollees, scholarships, and payment collection.
  • Collect and receipt all payments weekly, track payments, and distribute reminders and late notices.
  • Collect monthly attendance from CREATE and Head Start for reporting.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives such as Quality Counts and Accreditation Process.
  • Ensure staff acquire yearly continuing education credits (CEUs).
  • Ensure child and staff records are current and compliant with licensing and accreditation.
  • Provide direct supervision, coaching, and mentoring for CREATE–ELC teachers.
  • Provide or coordinate teacher training to increase effectiveness and ensure program quality.
  • Act as the liaison between CREATE – Early Learning and Head Start for a collaborative partnership.
  • Meet personal goals and contribute to team and organizational targets/goals.
  • Attend required staff meetings and on-going trainings.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
