About The Position

The Senior Accounting Manager is a key leader within the accounting and finance organization, responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, supporting the monthly close and financial reporting process, and helping to strengthen the systems, controls, and processes needed to scale the business. This role partners closely with the Director of Accounting and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial records, efficient workflows, and timely reporting. The ideal candidate is both technically strong and operationally minded, with the ability to manage details while also driving process improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required; equivalent experience considered.
  • CPA strongly preferred, or comparable depth of accounting knowledge and experience.
  • Significant accounting experience with progressive responsibility, including management experience.
  • Experience in real estate development, construction, private equity, or a related industry strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, monthly close, reconciliations, internal controls, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with ERP systems, process improvement, and accounting operations in a growing or evolving organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Collaborative leadership style with a willingness to be hands-on and solve problems proactively.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the timely and accurate monthly close process, including review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger activity.
  • Oversee general ledger maintenance and ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with company policy and accounting standards.
  • Manage corporate overhead allocations and support the accounting for intercompany activity, shared costs, and other recurring entries.
  • Oversee invoicing and collection of management, development, and other corporate fee revenue, as applicable.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations and income statement activity to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timely resolution of outstanding items.
  • Help maintain close calendars, workflows, and accountability across the team to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Prepare and review internal financial reporting packages, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and supporting schedules.
  • Support variance analysis, budgeting, and forecasting processes for the operating company.
  • Assist in identifying trends, explaining month-over-month and budget-to-actual fluctuations, and preparing management reporting materials.
  • Support the preparation of schedules and documentation required for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate audit support activities, including preparation of requested schedules, workpapers, and audit support files.
  • Help ensure compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and established procedures.
  • Assist in documenting, implementing, and improving accounting policies and processes to support a growing organization.
  • Support compliance with lender reporting requirements, internal reporting deadlines, and other financial obligations as needed.
  • Oversee key shared services accounting activities, including accounts payable, payroll accounting, employee expense reimbursements, and corporate credit card processes.
  • Review vendor setup and maintenance procedures and help ensure appropriate internal controls over disbursements.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to improve accuracy, timeliness, and accountability across transaction processing workflows.
  • Help monitor adherence to company policies related to purchasing, expense reporting, and disbursement approvals.
  • Partner with the Accounting and Finance leadership on process improvement, automation initiatives, and system optimization efforts across accounting and finance.
  • Support implementation, enhancement, and ongoing optimization of ERP and other finance-related systems.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce manual effort, and improve reporting accuracy and scalability.
  • Oversee and help coordinate a growing team of internal and external accounting resources supporting corporate and development accounting activities.
  • Provide day-to-day direction, review, and prioritization across team members and outsourced accounting support to ensure work is completed accurately and on time.
  • Help establish clear roles, responsibilities, and workflows across corporate and development accounting functions as the team continues to grow.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, helping to build a high-performing and accountable team environment.
  • Serve as a hands-on leader who can both manage others and dive into the work when needed.
