About The Position

The Senior Manager, Core Infrastructure Engineering manages teams delivering scalable distributed systems and components on a 2–4 quarter horizon for OCI Network Control Services Automation. The role standardizes engineering practices and scalability requirements across teams, oversees optimization for high-throughput, hyper-scale workloads, and ensures effective use of distributed state tools and data plane platforms. It guides teams in designing fault-tolerant, in-service-upgradable systems; setting SLO-aligned durability and availability targets; and implementing resiliency mechanisms such as load-shedding, throttling, and rate-limiting. The position provides oversight for KPIs, telemetry, dashboards, functional and correctness requirements, fault-injection tests, and replication and synchronization strategies. It ensures proactive incident management, operational readiness, and on-call coverage; drives encryption and access-control practices, remediation plans, and compliance documentation; and oversees automation and infrastructure-as-code development and maintenance. The role partners with teams on change-management plans for safe patching, updates, and rollbacks. It is based in Nashville, Tennessee.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee code and system optimization for large-scale data processing and high-throughput requirements in hyper-scale systems.
  • Guide teams in defining and meeting scalability requirements for owned components.
  • Manage use of data plane platforms for large-scale data retrieval, storage, and processing, and ensure performance and load testing is accurately designed.
  • Guide development of fault-tolerant systems capable of withstanding in-service updates through redundancy, replication, and automatic failover.
  • Develop strategies for handling service disruptions, including decisions involving consistency, availability, and partition tolerance.
  • Lead cross-team efforts to handle network unreliability through load-shedding, throttling, and rate-limiting.
  • Guide teams in designing durable components and systems that meet SLOs, setting availability and durability expectations for departmental computing services.
  • Oversee definition of KPIs and telemetry, and development and customization of dashboards, telemetry systems, and alerts to monitor system health.
  • Oversee design and implementation of functional and correctness requirements for new and existing systems.
  • Guide teams in designing complex test scenarios, including fault-injection and brown-out tests, and direct implementation of data replication and synchronization strategies.
  • Guide proactive diagnosis, debugging, and resolution of operational issues, and ensure teams prevent interruptions without requiring customer maintenance windows.
  • Oversee operational readiness protocols and approve schedules for operational support rotations.
  • Oversee security measures for multi-tenant environments, including encryption and access controls; direct remediation of security gaps and ensure compliance documentation.
  • Oversee development and maintenance of automation scripts and tools, including Infrastructure as Code, and guide change-management plans and automation for patching, updates, and rollbacks.
