About The Position

PavCo is the owner and operator of two of Canada’s premier venues for events, BC Place Stadium and the Vancouver Convention Centre. PavCo is seeking an effective leader to communicate a clear vision, providing team members strong support through guiding by example with integrity and accountability, as the new Senior Manager, Capital Projects Delivery. This pivotal position will report to the Senior Director, Infrastructure and Capital Projects. The Senior Manager, Capital Projects Delivery is a leader on the capital projects team responsible for providing people leadership, project planning direction, monitoring and management of activities to ensure timely completion within budget constraints. The Senior Manager provides oversight and direction to a team of Senior Project Managers and Project Managers to successfully deliver projects from planning to completion in alignment with PavCo’s capital plan. The role will maintain close relations with the Vancouver Convention Centre and BC Place Leadership Team members to anticipate and plan for upcoming projects, as well as adjust in flight project priorities as required. This position ensures the successful integration of projects into business processes and procedures while overseeing quality control The successful candidate must demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, an unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction, strong people management and problem-solving abilities.

Requirements

  • Completion of a 4-year University Degree in engineering, design, planning, project management, IT, business administration, or facility management/operation is ideal or a combination of education and work experience.
  • Courses in Project Management, Project Management Certification or equivalent experience
  • Experience in a leadership role, leading multiple direct reports.
  • Possesses a combination of qualities, such as effective communication skills, strong ethics, empathy and technical expertise.
  • Proven experience and ability to inspire employees and create a positive work environment while maintaining team morale.
  • Leads by example with strong emotional intelligence to help team members succeed.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop/manage budgets and oversee and allocate fiscal resources.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to listen, clearly articulate thoughts/directions/expectations and develop reports/proposals and make presentations.
  • Political and organizational sensitivity.
  • Skill at developing effective partnerships, negotiating contracts/agreements, and resolving conflict.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, render thoughtful decisions, and motivate others to levels of excellence.
  • Experience in project engineering. Strong multi-level supervisory experience with professional, trade, technical, and para-professional positions.
  • Extensive knowledge on building safety codes, ingress and egress plans and related event safety protocols
  • Knowledge of best practices and trends related to facilities management, game day management and concessions/food services.
  • Sound working knowledge of a wide variety of standard software applications including Momentus (EBMS), MS Office and AutoCad.

  • Professional designation preferred (PMP, PMI-ACP Designation, BOMA or IFMA Certification are assets)

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice and support to team members in the planning and execution of their projects to ensure there are adequate strategies, budgets and plans for resourcing, procurement, safety management, environmental management, quality management, risk management, stakeholder engagement, etc. as required for achieving schedule, cost and other required performance indicators.
  • Track project progress and changes and manage change control processes.
  • Provide team leadership by collaborating with other departments and holding project teams accountable for project results. Remove barriers to project level issues and resolves escalations concerning project or resourcing issues.
  • Encourage a PavCo approach to teamwork by drawing on other’s successes and sharing best practices.
  • In conjunction with PavCo capital and venue team members, develop project justifications (Decision Note) scope of work, budget, project plans, and work plan schedule identifying and sequencing the activities needed to successfully complete the project.
  • Support the development and engagement of team members through ongoing mentorship, coaching and performance management based on goals and objectives. Ensure development plans are in place for skills/career growth.
  • Work with the procurement team to develop procurement strategy, determine source selection, terms and conditions, and overall procurement approaches
  • Support the team to plan and manage daily operations and construction schedules while monitoring progress across projects. This includes ensuring construction booking data is in EBMS software.
  • Accountable for ensuring a smooth transition of the completed project to the PavCo venue facilities team including establishing training requirements as per the Standard Operating Procedures
  • Holds project management team accountable to finalize all financial transactions, complete final reports and ensure all record drawings, specifications, service manuals, and warranties are transferred to operations.
