About The Position

Manages and supervises day-to-day administration of Bus Operations at an assigned location to ensure that high quality bus transportation service is rendered to the community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Business Administration or a related discipline.
  • Five (5) years management or supervisory experience preferably in fleet and / or transportation industry, including experience in a multi-union environment managing multiple units, or a combination of education and experience relating to this position.
  • Experience in crafting creative solutions, and identifying and articulating complex issues concisely.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Working knowledge of transit operations industry and federal and state transportation regulations and practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to work with diverse audiences.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to quickly identify problematic areas and finding resolutions.
  • Ability to drive exemplary morale, culture, and employee engagement.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to various field locations.
  • Service Area Requirement: Exempt (Non-Union) employees must live within the boundaries of the CTA Statutory Service Area either at the time of employment or within 6 months of beginning employment at CTA.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees payroll and other HR functions of the department and supervises the preparation and processing of personnel documents (such as requisitions, change notices, certifications, work records, grievance responses, complaints, etc.).
  • Manages and is accountable for the vehicle operation, transportation, and administrative activities.
  • Oversees garage inspections of equipment, work methods, efficiency, safety conditions and general appearance.
  • Initiates new schedules and picks. Requests scheduling of additional bus operators, box pullers, clerks, supervisors, and other Bus Operations incumbents.
  • Receives and resolves customer service complaints and recommends appropriate course of action and resolution methods. Escalates most complex issues to senior management.
  • Monitors payroll functions to ensure timely distribution of paychecks to staff.
  • Participates in the development and administration of programs. Monitors compliance to rules, policies, procedures, goals and departmental objectives to ensure consistency of interpretation. Develops methods to improve location workflow and processes.
  • Performs audits of CTA assets in transportation and administration sections, such as location inventory, assets, radios, computer equipment and various office supplies.
  • Provides data analysis for budget and financial plans preparation.
  • Coordinates special projects and studies. Reviews and approves various reports ensuring quality and completeness.
  • Plans, assigns and reviews work of Clerical Staff to ensure that the agency objectives are met. Hires, trains, develops, and manages staff to ensure that qualified personnel exist to meet the agency objectives. Evaluates staff performance and recommends staff promotions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Hires, trains, develops, monitors, and evaluates performance of staff. Reviews and recommends personnel actions for approval.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
