Senior Manager, Budgeting & Internal Reporting, News Operations (Finance) (English Services) (Hybrid/Telework)

CBC News is looking for a Senior Finance Manager who is a transformational leader to join our CBC Network News Finance team at the Toronto Broadcast Centre. We are a 24-7 breaking news organization, with reach across television, radio, online, and mobile platforms. Reporting to the Director of Finance for CBC News this position will be responsible for handling all transformation initiatives and financial aspects (budgeting, forecasting, analysis, and reporting) for News Operations and other related groups. This role will be a key member of the CBC News Finance team and will involve FP&A, financial and management reporting, partnering directly with leaders across the News division to foster accountability and transparency of financial results.
Requirements
- Professional accounting designation such as CPA is required.
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience in a large financial management environment with FP&A experience; broadcasting experience is preferred.
- Ability and skills to make recommendations and provide analytical insight and interpretation of complex financial data to senior management in a clear and concise manner.
- Superior Excel skills and experience working with Oracle and Workday is an asset.
- Previous experience in a leadership position, including overseeing direct staff, setting of objectives, assigning and coordinating the work of direct reports is required. The job requires the ability to guide and direct a team of individuals at various levels.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and interact with employees, business managers and management cross functionally.
- Good leadership qualities and be capable of working with various levels of management and in situations either as a team leader or team member.
- Ability to deal with several, sometimes conflicting priorities under pressure in order to meet deadlines and meet multiple urgent demands within tight timeframes.
- Analytical mind, good judgment and great flexibility for work schedules, to serve diversified clientele and cope with numerous changes.
- Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
- A mandatory Criminal record check.
- Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.
Nice To Haves
- Broadcasting experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of activity based costing and recoveries is an asset.
- Fluency in French is an asset.
Responsibilities
- Oversee financial planning, budgeting, analysis, forecasting, and business reporting in collaboration with management and other operational personnel.
- Drive on-going analysis, evaluation, advice and guidance on projects and departmental expenditures, future planning, and effective utilization of workforce.
- Support resource management projects to identify opportunities to leverage systems and workflow to improve planning and management reporting.
- Partner with News Operations leaders to redesign the labour costing and recovery model to support News structure and strategy.
- Serve as subject matter expert for internal stakeholders to ensure appropriate application and adherence to collective agreements, financial policies, corporate guidelines, and procedures.
- Present results to senior management.
- Develop presentations and reports for various stakeholders.
- Build and focus strategies for CBC News Finance function that compliment and expand broader CBC Finance strategy.
- Lead, mentor and develop a diverse high-functioning team (direct reports and colleagues) including creating a motivating, positive environment.
- Lead and promote transformation initiatives
- Develops and maintains positive working relationships with other leaders across the function and organization.
- Requires a highly developed sense of client service, enabling the incumbent to listen to clients and correctly interpret each department's particular needs.
- Negotiates with managers to meet both their needs and management accounting objectives.
