Wipfli’s Outsourced Accounting practice is seeking a Senior Manager with deep nonprofit expertise to provide CFO‑level advisory and lead mission‑critical client engagements. In this role, you will deliver strategic financial insights, guide nonprofit leaders through budgeting, forecasting, and operational transformation, and oversee multiple teams to ensure exceptional quality and clarity in all deliverables. You’ll act as a trusted, perceptive advisor to executive teams, helping organizations strengthen financial health and advance their mission. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master’s degree a plus.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a strategic advisor to nonprofit executive leadership and Boards, including financial statement interpretation, cash flow forecasting, and long‑term sustainability planning.
  • Deep knowledge of nonprofit accounting and compliance considerations, including endowments (UPMIFA), federal grant compliance (e.g., Uniform Guidance/2 CFR Part 200), grant budgeting, reporting, and audit requirements, revenue recognition, indirect cost methodologies, and oversight of audit and Form 990 processes.
  • Experience with endowments and investment structures and revenue recognition of donor contributions is required.
  • Strong communication skills to translate complex financial and compliance topics into clear, practical guidance for non‑financial stakeholders and Boards.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant Public Accounting or industry accounting experience.
  • Proven success leading teams through organizational change and process improvement.
  • Strong project management and relationship-building skills, with a client-first mindset.
  • Experience managing remote teams and promoting collaboration across geographies.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with federally funded programs and/or Community Action Agencies (CAA), including familiarity with funding streams such as Head Start, CSBG, LIHEAP, or similar programs, strongly preferred.
  • Preferred proficiency in industry accounting software, e.g., QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, and a demonstrated ability to embrace new technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead client advisory engagements at a CFO-level, delivering strategic financial insights and operational guidance.
  • Drive change management initiatives to modernize service delivery through technology, standardized processes, and best practices.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with client executives by understanding their business goals and delivering tailored solutions.
  • Oversee multiple client teams, ensuring timely and accurate completion of accounting engagements.
  • Analyze financial performance, including KPIs, and provide actionable recommendations to improve profitability and cash flow.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams (e.g., revenue cycle, payroll, cost reporting) to deliver integrated client solutions.
  • Develop client budgets and forecasts, offering consultative support on financial planning and strategy.
  • Mentor and develop staff, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and operational excellence.
