About The Position

This Regional Investigator Supervisor (RIS) position is an SES position within the Office of Inspector General located in Tallahassee, Florida. The incumbent is responsible for supervising Regional Investigators located in Tallahassee. Regional Investigators conduct investigations under the supervision of the Chief of Investigations pertaining to employee misconduct, sexual harassment, and fraud, waste, or abuse involving the Department of Children and Families. Those investigations may be independent or conducted jointly with law enforcement. Investigations involve interpreting violations of laws, rules, policies, procedures, or contract provisions; conducting interviews of witnesses and subjects; obtaining sworn statements; obtaining evidence/documents; conducting reviews and analysis of documents; preparing written reports of investigation; traveling in-state as necessary; and performing other related duties as required. The RIS is responsible for ensuring investigations are conducted within established timeframes and meet established criteria. The RIS is responsible for ensuring reports and other work products completed by his/her team are of high quality in content and presentation; therefore, the RIS must demonstrate exceptional writing and editing skills. The RIS is expected to: Meet regularly with staff to discuss office procedures, agency issues, office goals, and work assignments. Immediately investigate any complaints received against staff and take timely and appropriate action. Ensure staff members attend necessary training within designated timeframes. Coordinate with management and program staff on investigations. Review work product of Regional Investigators before forwarding to the Chief of Investigations and Inspector General in order to ensure investigative sufficiency, accuracy, thoroughness, and quality. Brief the Inspector General and Chief of Investigations on cases assigned under his/her supervision. Handle all investigative information obtained with discretion to ensure its integrity and confidentiality in accordance with § 20.055, F.S. Maintain liaison with representatives of law enforcement agencies and departments. Follow established rules, regulations, and procedures, and adhere to and monitor compliance of mandatory purchasing requirements. Handle other duties and special assignments as required.

Requirements

  • A four-year (Bachelor's) degree from an accredited college or university is preferred or five or more years of supervisory experience, preferably in investigations.
  • Five or more years of investigative experience, preferably with at least one of those years being in an Inspector General's Office, Internal Affairs, or similar/equivalent environment (i.e., conducting investigations involving an agency's or organization's employees).
  • Experience conducting one or more of the following types of investigations: a. Criminal b. Sexual Harassment c. Discrimination d. Whistle-blower e. Administrative
  • Experience interpreting violations of laws, rules, policies, procedures, or contract provisions.
  • Experience writing narrative investigative reports.
  • Experience reviewing the work of subordinates or co-workers and providing feedback on necessary revisions.
  • Must be able to obtain a Florida Notary Public (must be or become a Florida resident).
  • Experience working with computer-based software, such as word-processing, database, and spreadsheet applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to applicants having the following designations: Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Inspector General Investigator (CIGI), or Certified Inspector General (CIG).
