Senior Mainframe z/VM & Linux Systems Engineer
About The Position
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mainframe z/VM & Linux Systems Engineer for a long-term contract role. The ideal candidate will be responsible for installing, configuring, administering, and maintaining IBM z/VM environments, as well as provisioning and managing Linux on IBM Z (s390x) virtual servers. This role involves system upgrades, migrations, patching, capacity planning, performance monitoring, and optimization. You will also support high-availability and disaster recovery solutions, configure virtual networking, storage, and security components, and troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues. Automation implementation for provisioning, monitoring, and system administration is a key aspect of this position. Collaboration with various IT teams and participation in on-call support and incident resolution are expected. The role also requires developing and maintaining technical documentation and operational procedures.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience supporting IBM Mainframe environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with z/VM.
- Strong hands-on experience with Linux on IBM Z (RHEL, SUSE, or Ubuntu for s390x).
- Strong hands-on experience with IBM Z hardware platforms.
- Strong hands-on experience with Virtual machine provisioning and administration.
- Experience with DIRMAINT.
- Experience with RACF or equivalent security administration.
- Experience with TCP/IP networking.
- Experience with Shared File System (SFS).
- Experience with CMS.
- Experience with CP commands and system management.
- Strong Linux administration skills including user management, storage management, system tuning, shell scripting, and performance troubleshooting.
- Experience supporting virtualized enterprise workloads.

- Experience with IBM z16, z15, z14, or z13 platforms.
