Requirements

  • Proven experience in z/OS operating system upgrades, mass maintenance deployment, and software installation
  • In-depth knowledge of z/OS components: JES2, HCD/IODF, SMP/E, WLM, OMVS/USS, SMF/RMF, ASM, GRS, SDSF, TSO and RACF
  • Strong understanding of communication protocols (VTAM, TCP/IP) and LPAR configuration via HMC
  • Expertise in storage management (SMS, HSM, DFDSS, VSAM, IDCAMS, ICF Catalogs)
  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a Mainframe Senior Systems Engineer

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with mainframe automation and monitoring tools
  • Experience with major subsystems (CICS TS, IMS, DB2 and IBM MQ)
  • Knowledge of tape library configuration, printer setup, and TCP/IP server configuration
  • Understanding of IBM Z hardware architecture

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical leader, guiding best practices and mentoring team members on z/OS operating system upgrade optimization
  • Design and implement standardized approaches for z/OS upgrades and mass maintenance to ensure repeatable, high-quality outcomes
  • Lead efforts to optimize system performance, streamline processes, and reduce operational complexity
  • Oversee installation, configuration, and maintenance of IBM and ISV software products, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute operating system upgrades with minimal business impact
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and templates for operating system rollouts
  • Drive adoption of new technologies and capabilities (e.g., Sysplex enhancements, automation frameworks) to support strategic objectives
  • Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for mainframe infrastructure projects, providing technical direction and governance
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and resolution for escalated incidents beyond Level 1 support
  • Participate in after-hours and weekend support as required
