About The Position

The Senior Mainframe Engineer will be responsible for performing technical detail design, coding, and testing of applications. This role serves as a subject matter expert for both customer and internal discussions related to maintaining and enhancing existing software systems. The engineer will develop and/or analyze interface design documentation, comply with hardware and software systems standards and procedures, and deliver large systems for tens of thousands of users. They will also comply with code quality, migration, and dev/ops standards and policies. The position involves software analysis, including requirements and use case development and design, implementing and documenting source code to design specifications, and performing software testing, including developing and running automated unit tests, and drafting and executing structured automated test cases. The engineer will compile, assess, and report data results from software testing and analysis. Additionally, they will develop software solutions for enterprise environments and other technologies, analyze and implement functional and non-functional requirements (e.g., performance, availability), and perform operations & maintenance (O&M) of existing systems. Identifying areas for improvement and streamlining is also a key responsibility. The role requires demonstrated experience with front-end and back-end programming and integration frameworks and tools, and assisting in the estimation of development of application features. The Senior Mainframe Engineer will provide direct technical support for high-level, high visibility, and critical trouble calls for supported applications, work with cross-functional teams to develop highly reliable software that runs at scale, and provide recommendations to infuse new technology. They will extend open-source libraries and systems as necessary, play a crucial role in product scoping and roadmap/architecture discussions, and continually evaluate emerging technologies to identify opportunities, trends, and best practices. Mentoring of junior software engineers is also expected.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience with software development, basic coding and compilation, software architecture/design, user requirements definition and software specification development.
  • Very technically proficient in ChangeMan ZMF.
  • Excellent knowledge of ZMF integration with such tools as RACF, XPEditer, JobScan, Email via SMTP, CICS, DB2, ISPF/TSO, Dialog Manager Panels/Skeletons and REXX programming.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Proven track record of excellent team management and conflict resolution.
  • Experienced in managing a team in multiple offices and home-based locations.

  • Advanced Knowledge of cloud technologies (e.g. AWS, Azure)
  • Proficient Knowledge of database technologies (e.g. DB2, cloud, SQL, Oracle, Mongo DB, PostgreSQL, etc.).
  • Advanced Fundamental knowledge of software engineers' best practices, agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficient Knowledge of test-first practices including Test-Driven Development (TDD) for unit tests and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) for automated acceptance tests.
  • Advanced Strong experience with Deployment/Continuous Integration/ Continuous Testing/ Continuous Delivery processes and tools and have expertise in CI/CD tools and framework.
  • Advanced Knowledge of Code quality and promotion practices.

  • In place of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.
