About The Position

The Senior Machinist will be responsible for setting up and operating manual and CNC machine tools to produce precision parts, tools, and fixtures. This role requires the ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, apply shop mathematics and GD&T, and consistently achieve extremely tight dimensional tolerances for military/space grade manufacturing. The position involves determining required machinery, sequence of operations, setups, and machining strategies, as well as selecting and maintaining cutting tools. The Senior Machinist will also use precision measuring instruments to verify conformance, maintain a clean and efficient shop environment adhering to 5S standards, and monitor shop activities to identify needs for improvements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or associate’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in a machine shop environment with strong knowledge of machining practices, setups, tooling, and material characteristics (metals and plastics)
  • Experience with Haas CNC equipment
  • Proficiency in MasterCam and/or Fusion 360 for machining/CAM programming
  • Demonstrated ability to hold and verify tight tolerances using precision metrology tools
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and adherence to 5S/LEAN methodologies
  • Excellent communications skills, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S. (e.g. Green Card holder), or a protected individual as defined by the International Traffic in Arm Regulations (ITAR).

  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor is highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools—including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and Haas CNC machinery—to produce precision parts, tools, and fixtures from drawings, sketches, and operation sheets.
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints and engineering documentation, applying shop mathematics and GD&T.
  • Consistently achieve extremely tight dimensional tolerances required in military/space grade manufacturing.
  • Determine required machinery, sequence of operations, setups, and machining strategies.
  • Select proper cutting tools for each operation, including grinding, sharpening, and maintaining tooling.
  • Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other inspection tools to verify conformance.
  • Maintain excellent attention to detail, organization, and adherence to 5S standards to keep a clean and efficient shop environment.
  • Monitor ongoing shop activities and identify needs for new equipment, tooling, work holding/fixturing, and process improvements.
