About The Position

Anduril’s Manufacturing Automation team is seeking a Senior Machine Vision Engineer to join our team. The Manufacturing Automation team is responsible for the design, integration, and deployment of automated manufacturing systems across Anduril factories. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to help define what production automation looks like for Anduril at a national scale.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Robotics, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of hands-on industry experience building, deploying, and maintaining machine vision systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Direct experience with industrial hardware ecosystems like Cognex, Keyence, Basler, or Sick.
  • Proficiency with core vision and deep learning software including OpenCV, Halcon, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
  • Strong coding skills in Python, C#, or C++.
  • Deep understanding of camera selection, lens optics, resolution, lighting techniques, and sensor calibration.
  • Direct experience interfacing vision systems with industrial controls like PLCs and robotics.
  • Mastery of classical rules-based tools, advanced defect detection, AI-based vision, and SPC methodologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Industry 4.0 standards, factory automation software, and IIoT protocols such as IO-Link, MQTT or OPC UA.
  • Familiarity with modern development workflows, including Git version control and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with 3D imaging techniques like structured light, time-of-flight (ToF), or stereo vision for robotic guidance and inspection.
  • Possession of an active Secret or Top-Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement machine vision systems for industrial automation, quality inspection, defect detection, and process monitoring
  • Specify, procure, validate, and sustain core vision components including cameras, lenses, lighting, controllers, and software
  • Oversee the installation, validation, and commissioning of vision systems across multiple production lines
  • Lead technical projects, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate cross-functionally to integrate high-precision inspection systems
  • Drive Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations for vision system errors and process failures
  • Mentor junior engineers and train production staff in daily operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of vision equipment to elevate team technical capabilities
