About The Position

Gain is seeking a Senior Intelligence Originator to join their expanding Intelligence Origination team in the US. This role is focused on sourcing proprietary, off-record insights on live private equity-related transactions, with an emphasis on collecting structured data points rather than writing news stories. The successful candidate will be instrumental in building a proprietary, real-time dataset on US M&A transactions. This is not a traditional reporting role; the primary mission is to cultivate a trusted network of off-record sources (investment bankers, private equity sponsors, advisors, consultants, lenders, and lawyers) and extract proprietary intelligence on live deals. The gathered insights will be structured into machine-readable data points for the Gain platform, including financials, process stage, valuation ranges, suitor lists, lender involvement, and deal motivation. The role involves speaking with market participants in a background-only capacity to surface intelligence not found in the public domain. Collaboration with analyst and research teams is key to converting raw insights into structured data, supporting client workflows and dealmaking decisions.

Requirements

Strong knowledge of M&A, private equity or private credit markets
Editorial/managerial experience, including training, mentoring, and supervising junior reporters
Experience sourcing market intelligence - in journalism, research, origination, investor relations or a related field
Skilled at cultivating senior-level sources and handling off-record, background-only conversations
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, both in-person and remotely
High attention to detail and ability to work quickly without sacrificing accuracy
Comfortable operating independently as part of a fast-moving, entrepreneurial team

Responsibilities

Build and maintain a network of sources - including bankers, sponsors, lenders, lawyers, consultants, and other advisors
Conduct daily off-record, high-trust conversations to surface non-public insights on deal activity (e.g. bidders, valuation ranges, advisors, incumbent lenders, deal rationale, timeline)
Identify and monitor live and upcoming M&A transactions
Ensure high-quality sourcing of proprietary datapoints that feed directly into the Gain platform - not written articles
Manage, mentor, and develop a team of junior reporters, providing guidance on sourcing, market coverage, and best practices for investigative reporting and deal tracking
Collaborate closely with our in-house analysts and research teams to ensure data completeness, consistency and structured format
Support the expansion of our real-time transaction pipeline and contribute to internal market intelligence sharing
