About The Position

The Senior Linux System Administrator supports the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract. The candidate will build, configure, deploy, administer, maintain and troubleshoot virtual and physical servers/systems, ensuring system changes are completed in accordance with developer documentation, configuration management and documentation practices. They will install, configure, and manage RHEL and other Linux-based systems, perform physical inspections and research using system/event logs to identify problems and trends, and advise leadership on technical recommendations regarding system operation issues, improvements, optimization tools, methods, and process development. The role also involves assisting integration managers in problem definition and root cause analysis, providing timely updates on task status and troubleshooting efforts, making recommendations for work actions to achieve critical-path requirements, identifying documentation errors, and using the REMEDY ticketing system for problem and resolution tracking. The position may require evening shift work and weekend duty to meet off-hour mission activities.

Requirements

08, or more, years of general (full-time) work experience (May be reduced with completion of advanced education)
06, or more, years of directly related experience in IT systems, installing and configuring operating systems and virtual machines, and troubleshooting
1, or more, years of experience working in a management or leadership role
Experience with Multi Factor Authentication methodology
Experience building, configuring and deploying servers/systems in a virtualized environment
Administration experience on RHEL 8/9 using Command Line Interface
Ability to interface with software engineers, system engineers, and subject matter experts to solve complex integration and technical problems
Current DoW approved 8570 Level II certification such as Security+ CE
Active DoW Secret Security Clearance

Experience working with Ansible automation
Experience configuring and managing NetApp storage devices
Experience with security patching and software management using RHEL Satellite
Network troubleshooting experience
Knowledge of Missile Defense, DoD communications systems and MDIOC operations
Project Management experience
A Degree in an IT or Engineering related discipline

Responsibilities

Build, configure, deploy, administer, maintain and troubleshoot virtual and physical servers/systems
Ensure system changes are completed in accordance with developer documentation, configuration management and documentation practices
Install, configure, and manage RHEL and other Linux-based systems
Perform necessary physical inspections and research using system/event logs and appropriate tools/software to identify problems, trends and aid in troubleshooting actions
Advise leadership and make appropriate technical recommendations regarding system operation issues and improvements, optimization tools and methods, and process development
Assist integration managers in problem definition and root cause analysis as needed
Provide timely updates to appropriate team leads, managers and stakeholders on status of tasks and troubleshooting efforts
Make recommendations to plan, develop and execute work actions that achieve critical-path requirements
Identify documentation errors and provide recommendations to appropriate personnel for correction
Use REMEDY ticketing system to report, track and document problem and resolution life-cycle actions on faulty systems
Perform evening shift work and weekend duty as needed to meet off-hour mission activities
