About The Position

The City of Leduc is seeking a permanent full-time Senior Lifeguard and Senior Instructor II for their Leduc Recreation Centre. This role reports to the Aquatic Operations Coordinator and is responsible for ensuring a safe and enjoyable aquatic experience for facility users. This involves active safety supervision, incident prevention, emergency response, and providing high-quality instruction for various aquatic programs. The position offers a unique work environment with a tropical climate, an active lifestyle, and a fun atmosphere.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • A minimum of 2,080 hours of lifeguard/instructor experience.
  • A positive and energetic personality, hard-working, and team-oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and instructional skills.
  • Proven commitment to customer service.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment by multi-tasking and efficiently prioritizing workload.
  • Passion for working with children and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and skill development, including monthly fitness and knowledge tests, required training, and additional certifications.
  • National Lifeguard certification.
  • Oxygen Administration certification.
  • Swim Instructor certification.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR C or Aquatic Emergency Care certification.
  • AARFP Pool Operator 1 certification.
  • Must be flexible to attend training sessions outside of typical work week hours.
  • Must provide a current Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check, completed at employee's expense.
  • Must provide a current successful Child Intervention Record Check.
  • Submission of proof of all certifications and Lifesaving Society Member ID#.

Responsibilities

  • Lifeguard for children, youth, adults, schools, and community groups.
  • Prevent injuries through public education, enforcing safety rules, and recognizing/responding to emergencies.
  • Recognize and respond to incidents requiring first aid or other safety concerns.
  • Maintain a clean and safe aquatic environment through shift-based maintenance.
  • Instruct aquatic programs for children, youth, adults, and schools.
  • Prepare lesson plans, evaluations, progress cards, and routine reports.
  • Collaborate with team and supervisors on operational procedures, first aid, and rescue skills.
  • Provide high-quality customer service to create a positive user experience.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and professional image.
  • Support and mentor lifeguards and assistant lifeguards.
  • Handle customer concerns effectively.
  • Ensure aquatic centre pools meet operational requirements by completing safety checks, monitoring mechanical systems, and maintaining water quality.
