About The Position

The Senior Licensing and Business Development Officer, within the Technology Licensing Office, is responsible for the commercialization of MIT’s Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio derived from research and activities on campus. This role involves managing a substantial portfolio of cases, encompassing technology evaluation, marketing, outreach to faculty and industry, the creation of business deal terms, and the dissemination of IP rights through advanced license agreements and other mechanisms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, physical sciences, or relevant field
  • A minimum of seven years of licensing experience in academic, federal laboratory technology transfer, industry business development and licensing involving commercialization of technologies
  • IP portfolio management
  • Development of marketing and commercialization plans
  • IP protection strategies
  • Solid business relationships within relevant sectors
  • Experience establishing license deal terms and negotiating license agreements
  • Superior verbal and written communications skills
  • Problem-solving and decision making skills
  • Interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and a collaborative approach
  • Ability to grasp University technology licensing’s complex licensing, legal and business issues
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Exercises judgment, prioritization, and discretion of a large workload
  • Experience in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented, matrix environment

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or PhD in life sciences, physical sciences, and/or MBA
  • Demonstrated maturity and sensitivity to the needs of multiple stakeholders in a complex academic environment

  • Experience in business development and licensing involving commercialization of technologies related to: optics, computing, artificial intelligence, hardware, communications, software, transportation, and/or energy technologies, therapeutic, diagnostic, drug delivery, genetic engineering, medical device, biomanufacturing, biomaterials and/or drug discovery technologies
