About The Position

HBK Engineering is seeking a Senior Licensed Professional Engineer to join their team. This role requires a valid PE license, though 10+ years of significant engineering experience may be considered in lieu of licensure. This position leads, supports, and directs teams consisting of engineers, designers, and staff involved in the delivery and execution of project work, from design and analysis to the day-to-day management of direct report team members. The role is located in Chicago, Oak Brook, and Geneva, IL.

Requirements

  • Valid PE license (or 10+ years of significant engineering experience may be considered in lieu of licensure).
  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of Client standards, guidelines, systems, and equipment.
  • Understanding of national standards and guidelines.
  • Understanding of safe work practices, both in office and field.
  • Understanding of employee policies and appropriate office conduct.
  • Ability to represent the organization in communications and conferences pertaining to broad-aspects of engineering.
  • Strong computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong proficiency in Engineering Design Programs (i.e. AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.).
  • Ability to manage a variety of tasks in a highly organized manner within a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience with leading the discipline design for projects and delegating tasks to team members.
  • Ability to lead the execution of project work and resolve issues in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to perform quality reviews of project work and engineering documents and standards.
  • Attention to detail, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving.
  • Understands individual project scopes and deliverable commitments.
  • Understands project areas of risk.
  • Understands vendor / subcontractor processes and contracts.
  • Understands Standard Hourly Rates, Unit Rate, Fixed Fee and Labor Rate Multipliers.
  • Understands the status of charges, billable, unbillable.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Requires PE licensure.
  • Typically requires 10-years of engineering experience.

Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day management and development of direct report team members.
  • Delivery and execution of project work.
  • Directing and coordinating technical activities related to project execution and delivery.
  • Applying extensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.
  • Using advanced techniques in the modification or extension of theories and practices of sciences and disciplines to complete assignments.
  • Working on major projects or several projects of moderate scope with complex features.
  • Reviewing complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance.
  • Developing new techniques and/or improved processes, materials, or products.
  • Assisting in the training and mentoring of team members within their teams.
  • Completion of Timesheets in a timely (daily) and accurate manner.
  • Obtaining an in-depth understanding of their reporting manager’s expectations and project team structure.
  • Measuring personal performance.
  • Providing feedback and performance indicators to their reporting manager.
  • Setting goals with their reporting manager for professional development and monitoring progress towards these goals for self.
  • Assisting their reporting managers by bringing attention to issues or potential issues.
  • Addressing concerns that may affect safety, budget, deadlines, or clients adversely.
  • Establishing positive relations within the project team(s) and with supporting groups within the company.
  • Taking a leadership role in company sponsored events and HBK Impact programs.
  • Acting as a role model / setting the example of positive performance for team members.
  • Driving continuous improvement and innovation across the organization.
  • Taking a leadership role in making the HBK Organization a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for all people.
  • Supervising all staff necessary to complete assignments.
  • Reviewing and approving scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
  • Facilitating the formation of project teams and mediating conflict between team members.
  • Overseeing, evaluating, and mentoring direct reports in the day-to-day execution of their assigned projects and organizational responsibilities.
  • Maintaining regular one-on-one meetings with all direct reports on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to provide ongoing mentorship, guidance, and support.
  • Advising in the development of Project Proposals / RFP responses.
  • Anticipating technical and constructability project challenges and working to minimize downstream project risk.
  • Monitoring that all work is performed under contract, or gaining approval from their reporting Manager for work performed out of standard contract sequence.
