About The Position

J2 Building Consultants is seeking a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) to join their team. This role involves investigating building issues in the field, collaborating with a team, and using their license to make an impact. It is not a production drafting or pure design role, but rather one where the engineer will answer tough questions and sign off on solutions. The ideal candidate will be licensed in WA, OR, and/or UT, confident in stamping structural reports and designs, willing to learn quickly, and ready to engage in field work. The position offers a blend of technical work and project ownership, with opportunities for leadership growth in a smaller, growing firm.

Requirements

Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in WA, OR, UT or ability to obtain.
Interest in both technical work and project ownership.
Curiosity and a desire to understand failure mechanisms.
Comfortable working in a hands-on, collaborative environment.
Willingness to wear multiple hats and grow with the company.
Ability to reliably commute Monday-Friday for hybrid field/office role.

Nice To Haves

Experience in building envelope consulting or forensic work.
Familiarity with structural analysis software (ETABS, SAP2000, RISA, etc.).
Additional PE licensure in ID, or elsewhere.

Responsibilities

Review, approve, and stamp designs, drawings, and recommendations that meet code and ensure safety.
Conduct inspections, assess failures, and diagnose the root cause of building issues, including roofing, cladding, and waterproofing.
Collaborate with project managers, designers, and clients.
Translate complex engineering findings into practical, actionable solutions.
Balance time between analysis, report writing, and site investigations.
Perform hands-on work with buildings, from crawlspaces to rooftops.
