Requirements

  • Must be LPN in the state of Florida with a clear/active license.
  • Must have at least one year of clinical experience in a hospital setting or at least one year of experience in an out-patient clinical setting.
  • Must be willing to be trained to perform phlebotomy.
  • Must be willing to administer vaccinations.
  • Must have a Florida driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Collects blood specimens (venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks) from adult and pediatric patients in accordance with laboratory procedures and universal precautions.
  • Prepares and packages specimens for various laboratories.
  • Performs a variety of standard laboratory tests per defined lab procedures, including pregnancy testing, rapid in-house HIV and RPR testing, and urine analysis.
  • Conducts audits and prepares reports on lab results and lab-related activities.
  • Documents laboratory results in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) as needed.
  • Verifies receipt of specimens sent to external laboratories.
  • Complies with all laboratory certification requirements.
  • Supports clinic operations by notifying STD clients via text messaging and assisting with HIV test counseling.
  • Precepts clinical staff in venipuncture training.
  • Attends meetings and seminars to stay current on laboratory testing advancements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, within the scope of a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
  • Completes all required lab-related documentation.
  • Maintains cleanliness and sterilization of lab areas and clinical equipment.
  • Enters immunization data into the Florida SHOTS system.
  • Administers required or recommended vaccines to patients from infancy through adulthood.
  • Assists with vaccine inventory management.
  • Generates Florida SHOTS reports as requested.
  • Programs thermometers, monitors vaccine refrigerator/freezer temperatures, and completes associated reports.
  • Packs and prepares vaccines for transport.
  • Certifies immunization records (Form 680).
  • Handles delegated tasks including processing religious exemptions (Form 681).
  • Prepares immunization history reports and advises on upcoming vaccinations.
  • Completes follow-up vaccine reminder communications (calls, emails, and letters).
  • Updates Florida SHOTS records based on client status (active/inactive).
  • Attends staff conferences, in-service education programs, and seminars to maintain licensure and expand professional knowledge.
  • May require use of a privately owned automobile or county-vehicle for work-related travel; mileage will be reimbursed at the state-approved rate, if private vehicle is used.
  • May serve on one or more Department of Health committees as a clinic representative.
  • Complies with all job requirements per the Licensed Practical Nurse classification.
  • Performs all the other duties as required.
