About The Position

Prince William Public Libraries (PWPL) is seeking a dynamic Part-Time Selector to ensure our collection keeps pace with changing demands and evolving needs. This experienced librarian will manage a diverse, innovative non-print collection for half a million diverse residents. As a leader in our Materials Services Division, this role is responsible for keeping offerings fresh, inclusive, and ahead of the curve. The Media and Emerging Collections Selector will be the primary architect of a collection that informs and inspires, meeting public demand for a wide variety of popular media including DVDs and Blu Rays, tablets and portable audio devices, and other non-traditional collections. This role involves close collaboration with other PWPL Divisions and Public Services staff to identify potential future collections, research their compatibility with our practices and budget, and advocate for innovative new products to be added to the collection. This is an opportunity to help PWPL meet and anticipate evolving patron and community needs.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in library and information science
  • 1 year of experience in collection development/selection

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in Public Libraries
  • Experience using vendor websites such as Ingram ipage
  • Experience using library ILS
  • Experience using online library tools such as OCLC WorldCat, Simply Reports, Collection HQ
  • Experience using collection analysis (statistics)
