About The Position

Florida Atlantic University (FAU) is seeking an Online Learning and Emerging Technologies Librarian to support the design, delivery, and assessment of library services for online and hybrid learners. This role ensures equitable access to research support, instruction, and digital learning resources. The librarian will collaborate with faculty, instructional designers, and library colleagues to integrate information literacy and research skills into online courses. A key aspect of this position is advancing student success, engagement, and retention through the development of innovative, user-centered instructional materials and virtual services. Requirements

  • ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience providing library instruction and research support in online or academic environments.
  • Knowledge of instructional design principles, online pedagogy, and learning technologies.
  • Experience creating digital learning objects, tutorials, videos, or multimedia instructional content.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a team member and team leader where consultation, flexibility, creativity, collaboration, and cooperation are essential.
  • Demonstrates strong organization skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative and strong interpersonal skills with a high level of professionalism and exceptional work ethic.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data to support decision-making, and adapt to change in an ever-evolving and rapidly growing institution.

Nice To Haves

  • Second Master’s degree or doctorate or in process.
  • 5 years experience and Master’s or certificate in Educational Technology.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards, ADA compliance, and Universal Design for Learning principles.
  • Experience with assessment and learning analytics.
  • Experience using educational technologies, video editing software, or authoring tools.
  • Knowledge of computational literacy, or technology-focused learning initiatives, including familiarity with introductory programming concepts, digital tools, or emerging technologies used in academic learning environments.

  • Experience using a Learning Management System (e.g. Canvas).
  • Experience in a consortial or multi-campus academic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, deliver, and assess online and hybrid library instruction that supports information literacy, research skills, student success, and faculty across disciplines and academic levels.
  • Create engaging asynchronous learning materials, including tutorials, videos, interactive modules, and digital learning objects.
  • Develop and implement instructional strategies grounded in online pedagogy and active learning.
  • Create and manage online instructional content, research guides, and digital educational resources using platforms such as LibGuides and other web-based technologies.
  • Explore, evaluate, and support the use of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), multimedia tools, educational technologies, and digital learning platforms, to enhance teaching, learning, and research.
  • Provide guidance to students, faculty, researchers, and staff on the ethical and effective use of emerging technologies and AI tools in academic and research environments.
  • Stay current with trends, technologies, and best practices related to online learning, AI, digital pedagogy, educational technologies, scholarly communication, and academic librarianship.
  • Work closely with Center for Online and Continuing Education to support online learning initiatives, instructional design efforts, student success initiatives, and the integration of emerging technologies into teaching and learning.
  • Participate in outreach services to promote faculty, students, researchers, and staff engagement with Open Educational Resources, Scholarly Publishing, Open Pedagogy, and Digital Commons initiatives.
  • Participate in the libraries’ liaison program, including the development and review of research guides in the assigned discipline.
  • Support the Libraries’ Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other strategic initiatives.
  • Support efforts to maintain R1/Top 100 status for the University and the Libraries.
  • Develop an annual professional development plan.
  • Investigate opportunities to carry out, publish, and present original scholarship, research, and scholarly projects related to the area of expertise or responsibility.
  • Serve on appropriate Libraries, University, regional, state or national committees including professional committees, and actively participate in Libraries’ and campus faculty governance.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
