About The Position

This role provides timely, comprehensive legal counsel and guidance on labor and employment issues, with a particular focus on California employment law compliance. The Senior Legal Counsel will advise on and assist in the drafting, revising, and reviewing of HR policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws. This position also involves keeping senior management informed of significant labor and employment decisions, new legislation, and regulatory changes affecting the company’s operations and policies. Additionally, the role includes providing training to the Human Resources team and business leaders on employment laws, conducting legal research and investigations, managing litigation and dispute resolution matters, and supporting the broader legal team in formulating strategies. A deep understanding of the company's business, industry trends, and competitive landscape is essential, along with providing legal support to various business initiatives.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited, top-tier law school.
  • Licensed and in good standing to practice law.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of corporate legal experience, preferably in a large law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Strong knowledge of California employment law, including experience managing wage and hour, class action/PAGA and OSHA matters.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely, comprehensive legal counsel and guidance on labor and employment issues, particularly regarding California employment law compliance.
  • Advise on and assist in the drafting, revising, and reviewing of HR policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Keep senior management informed of significant labor and employment decisions, new legislation, and regulatory changes affecting the company’s operations and policies.
  • Provide training to the Human Resources team and business leaders on employment laws, including ADA, Title VII, FMLA, workplace safety, and workers’ compensation.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to develop informed guidance on employment-related topics, including working conditions and safety requirements.
  • Handle internal investigations, respond to employment-related claims, demand letters, and administrative complaints.
  • Assist in the management of various litigation and dispute resolution matters; coordinate with external legal counsel as needed.
  • Support the broader legal team in formulating strategies to align legal approaches with business objectives.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the company's business, industry trends, and competitive landscape.
  • Provide legal support to various business initiatives on an as-needed basis.
