Senior Legal Counsel - Litigation

Requirements
- Strong advocacy skills and deep understanding of litigation processes
- Excellent negotiation, oral, and written communication abilities
- Sound judgment and the ability to assess legal risks while balancing business objectives
- Agility, initiative, client-service orientation, and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Law Degree (LLB or JD)
- Licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- 5 to 10 years of experience in insurance litigation or a similar role, preferably within the life insurance or financial services industry
- Comfortable working in a continuous improvement environment
- Ability to communicate complex legal concepts in plain language
Nice To Haves
- Fluency in French is considered an asset
Responsibilities
- Provide litigation services and legal support directly to iA Financial Group and its subsidiaries, while managing external counsel when required
- Draft pleadings, motions, mediation briefs, pre-trial briefs, and other legal documents
- Represent the organization at court proceedings, including motions, examinations for discovery, pre-trial conferences, and mediations
- Negotiate and resolve claims and disputes in a cost-effective and business-oriented manner
- Provide legal opinions and strategic advice on litigation matters and broader legal issues, including legislative analysis and legal research
